I LOVE used items! There is something magical to me about acquiring an item that once belonged to somebody else. I can’t pin down exactly what it is-if it’s the thrill of not paying full price or just having uncovered a precious treasure that had long ago been discarded by its owner. Maybe a little of both?
Yes- I know some of you cringe at the idea of a used item, I’m not sure I understand. I’m planning on having my own yard sale in a few weeks and I’ve come to realize how much stuff we own as a family. I can’t believe it. What was once a treasure has now become an eyesore and so forth. We definitely have MORE than we need. I have packed boxes and still feel as if I haven’t cracked the surface of this mountain of stuff!
I like to point the finger at everyone else, talk about the things everyone HAS to have: the staples these days are: the wooden swing set, flat screen TV, the Tempur-pedic mattress, GPS system, trampoline, Weber grill and your blow up pool with a filter( several brands available). My husband and I laugh when someone mentions one of these items because it’s just so obvious. Now I’m not criticizing anyone-but when you have to have your kids wait for years because they NEED that $1000 swing set Yes, I have issue or you can’t buy a BBQ because you NEED a Weber. Give me a break! I used a BBQ I picked up on the side of road for FREE for years till it died. I guess what I’m trying to say is NEED and WANT are 2 very different things. Society can definitely affect what some peoples needs are by making certain items be status items.
Before you buy anything new- take a look at this site www.storyofstuff.com
Also, enjoy yourself, its about you and not what people think about you- I admit I live well for a person of limited means. I also don’t pretend to be someone I’m not.
I honestly wouldn’t want it any other way!
