Well, I hope I’m not boring you with all my New Years resolutions posts, but here’s another one. I’m trying to eliminate the plastic bags I bring into my home. Since the first of the year I have only brought 3 plastic bags into my house. One of them that snuck in was from dinner leftovers. Ahhh- I didn’t see that one coming.
I’ve been a regular user of the canvas bags, but I’m trying to make an extra effort to always use them. I think most of us have the grocery store down, but I always have forgotten to bring them with me when shopping at department stores, drug stores, etc. I also was shy when a cashier began bagging my items, I would just take the plastic bag instead of having them unbag. I’m not shy anymore.
To make things more convenient I have a bag in my purse, keep one on my front seat (as a reminder) and always have them in my trunk. I also have accumulated a variety of bags, freezer bags, wine bottle bags, large shopping bags, etc. Also most grocery stores give you 5 cents off per bag, as does Target. CVS has also designed a program where you get their CVS Extra Bucks for using your own bag.
One excuse I hear people use for taking the plastic bags is that they “use” them. Well, if you “didn’t” have the bag what “could” you do? I think we need to start thinking a bit out of the box. In the past my number 1 use for plastic bags was putting my sons poopy diapers in, wow what a double environmental bang! I just as easily could have placed a small garbage can on my porch and popped them out the door.
Anyway, that’s my mission. Here is a great site that talks about the problem with plastic and paper bags. Click Here to learn about the problem and solution! 1 Bag at a Time! They also have a links page if you want to see what others are saying about bag use and it’s impact.

Stopping by to follow and say hello. I was so much better about not using plastic bags when I lived in Hong Kong. I don't understand what the disconnect is now that I am back in the States after all I brought all of the really nice tote bags back with me so why can't I just bring them to the store. I have such nice ones and most were free from different stores over there.
