That’s right I’m taking toilet paper! Actually any paper product you can’t live without, can be purchased recycled. Now let’s not get silly and think that recycled toilet paper is made from old toilet paper. it’s made from recycled paper products. I know alot of people think they can’t live without certain paper products. A good baby step you can take if you fit that category is to buy recycled products. Paper towels, toilet paper, tissues and napkins can all be bought 100% recycled. If every family swapped out 1 roll of toilet paper for a recycled roll it would save 424,000 trees! 1 roll! Try Seventh Generation, Planet,Earthfirst or Marcal Small Steps brands. I know Marcal always has coupons available and so does seventh Generation, especially if you join their website. These really are affordable alternative that help the environment.
Think when you shop and buy responsibly. I know it might not be possible all the time, but if it becomes a habit you won’t even miss the extra dollars. If you want to be environmentally responsible and say you can’t afford it, I bet you can go super green and might not even know it.
Ways to Save on Paper Products:
1. Use cloth napkins. ( we do, I keep some recycled paper ones in the house for company. The cloth napkin just hasn’t caught on I guess. I even use one in my sons lunch box)
2. Dish towels/rags. ( instead of paper towels try to let it become a habit to use a cloth to wipe up the mess. I use old cloth diapers for dusting. they do a great job!)
3. Handkerchiefs! ( I think these are making a come back)
If you know how to shop most of these items can be bought on clearance. Also put paper products out of site and place your cloth products in a prominent location. Another trick of mine- when you change the roll of paper towels make a mark on your calendar and see how long that roll lasts. I have made it over a month before, then husband grabs half the roll because it’s handy! Hence put the cloth in a prominent location!
Every little bit helps to save the planet for our wee ones!
