What is a junk food vegetarian? Basically what I call a junk food vegetarian is someone whose diet is mostly processed foods that contain no meat. You heard me. Eating veggie burgers, soy hot dogs, and well basically anything you can throw into a microwave is almost as bad as eating a real beef burger. These are still junk foods. I like all these things too, but in moderation.
What do I consider junk food? If I need a Masters Degree to read the ingredient label it’s junk. I mean taking meat out of the picture can leave us with Hot Pockets, Pizza and Pop Tarts as vegetarian cuisine for some. So, not the reality for the true vegetarian. I can see how someone could believe that a vegetarian diet is poor nutrition if you know one of these “junk” food vegetarians. I mean eating salad, pasta and pizza all the time is not going to cut it in the nutrients department.
I consider a true vegetarian diet to contain whole foods.Whole foods are fresh vegetables, fruits and grains. As, vegetarians are NOT Vegan they also enjoy dairy products like eggs, milk and cheese. (Now that’s a whole other story)
So, let’s not be quick on the judgement people. You basically are what you eat, as corny as it sounds and I’d rather be a tomato than a soy dog or a steak.
Disclosure: I have no formal nutrition training. I’m just a wanna be health food junkie changing my lifestyle one day at time.
