My birthday is in August and last year I had a great one. Not only was my birthday on the weekend, but I had a huge party! It was ,of course, my 40Th. My original plan was to go swimming with the sharks. Maybe this year, I’ll do that. I try to do something spectacular on every milestone birthday. I’ve been sky diving, hang gliding and took a group of friends to trapeze school on another birthday. Now here’s the thing, I ask for one thing every single year and I NEVER get it. You’ll never guess what it is?
It’s a birthday cake, but not just any cake. My beautiful friend made me the above cake for my 40Th and I loved it, but still it was not the cake I’ve been asking for year after year. I don’t quite understand the problem. I want a traditional birthday cake. My husband has bought me gourmet cakes from the bakery and although they have been unique and lovely, not the cake I wanted. I just don’t understand what is so difficult about what I want. I hope you don’t find me unappreciative, I am thrilled to have people think about me in such a special way. I’ve had other special friends make me cakes as well. I have loved every single one of them! But my cake seems to be completely elusive, I can’t just buy it myself because that wouldn’t count. Want to see it?
It’s not that exciting is it? It’s not sky diving or the beautiful pink perfection of my last cake, but it’s what I dream of every year. The other amusing part of the story, I just stole this picture from the Stop and Shop website. I’m not looking for the Cake Boss. I just want flowers and frosting and 2 layers with frosting or strawberry in between. Maybe this will be the year! Maybe….

Both cakes look yummy. I can’t say I always get one. Though my daughter and I always make mine. I think those are the best. I love your dream cake. So simple but pretty. Looks awesome. I really hope you get it this year.
Thanks for posting. Visiting from the blog dare.

Trapeze school? Did you go to the one in Tarrytown? It’s owned by my French friend Philippe! He’s now consulting on Spiderman. His favorite joke is “Marcel Marceau saw me perform! I left him speechless!”
