I recently attended the online premiere of Mighty Fine starring Chazz Palminteri, Andie MacDowell, Jodelle Ferland, and Rainey Qualley. It was such a powerful film. It’s a film about a father’s love for his wife and daughters and their vulnerability in the face of his rage. Set in the seventies, a time when men still ruled the roost, Joe, (Palminteri) is a man that feels his is defined by his wealth. His rage is driven by his insecurities and fear of failure. He is moody, aggressive and dangerous. MacDowell, as his wife, Stella, stays with Joe because she feels he has saved her. Stella is a Polish survivor of the holocaust. MacDowell, is perfect in this role. Her accent is excellent and she has a charm about her believable as this seventies, immigrant mom. Rainey Qualley, plays the oldest daughter, and puts on an incredible performance opposite her life mom (MacDowell) and Palminteri. The youngest daughter , Natalie, is played by Jodelle Ferland ( Eclipse) and is magnificent in her portrayal of this young, shy, vulnerable girl that expresses herself through her writing.

My Thoughts:
What can I say? The acting is amazing. I mean how can it not be with this cast. The movie stays true to the period. Palminteri is perfectly cast as the patriarchal head of this family. His mood swings are fierce. The interactions between him and his daughter ( Qualley) are intense. This movie is jam packed with emotions considering it’s only 80 minutes long. The feelings linger long after it’s over. Don’t bring the kids to this one! Although if they are older this would be a good one to see together. It could open up many conversations. I was also privileged to take part in a live chat with the actors after the film had ended.

Although I didn’t ask any questions, I loved hearing the actors respond to the questions that were being asked by other bloggers. Taking part in this chat really enhanced my movie experience. I got to hear about what it was like working with the other actors and how they prepared themselves for their parts. The actors involved in the live chat were Chazz Palminteri and Rainey Qualley.
The movie opens in select theaters on May 25Th. See if it’s coming to a theater near you HERE. It’s one to see!

“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Mighty Fine and the distributor. I received access to an online showing of the film and a promotional item to thank me for participating”

I actually had the pleasure to meet Chazz back in 1989 when he debuted his one-man play A BRONX TALE which became the movie with him and Robert DeNiro. Chazz grew up on 187th Street in the Arthur Ave neighborhood of the Bronx. His aunt or cousin happened to live next door to me on Belmont Ave and when she found out I was going to see him she gave me a cake to bring to him. I had just gotten my first real theater job and I told him so and he was really encouraging and took some time to talk about the old neighborhood. Always liked him since then and of course, he’s just an excellent actor…
