Although the book was fictional it was tough for me as a parent to read, yet important. I had to put it down several times. The author expresses the emotions of these characters on such a level that I was swept away with them. As, a parent this is one of the most horrible things that can happen to you. I could feel Megan’s struggle with guilt and her sadness. I also was impressed with the character of Peter ( the husband). The author does an amazing job of illustrating Peter’s emotions, which were quite the different than Megan’s feelings. I feel as if this was true depiction of what would happen to a family on an emotional level if they lost a child in this way. Without giving too much away, I could also relate to the experiences of Jack and Dottie. ( This is the elderly couple whom care for their “grand daughter” Emmie) The book unfolds quite naturally as if it is written from non-fiction. You sympathize with the characters and root for them. They are all likeable in their own way. This book was truly a pleasure to read and will have you shedding a few tears.
