What is a BubbleBum you might be asking? An inflatable what?
BubbleBum is the first ever inflatable booster seat. It weighs less than a pound and is simple to inflate and deflate. This mom was sent a sample to try out. I felt comfortable giving it try because after all it does meet all the US federal Motor Vehicle safety standards as required by NHTSA. Let me tell you about it.
The BubbleBum comes packaged in this round cylinder and fits in this purple carry bag when deflated. It’s compact enough to put in a backpack, keep in the back of your car or carry it like it is right in the bag. I love the idea of having this option with me. It can used in airplanes, taxis, buses when traveling or makes an awesome extra in case you end up having to car pool an extra child or two! I was nervous about being to inflate this product by myself. Would I lose a lung?
When I unrolled it from the package I noticed it wasn’t exactly flat, like you would think an inflatable would be. It had density to it. It was quite firm, yet pliable. I put my lips on the nozzle and began to blow. Honestly, it was quite effortless. It literally took only a few seconds for it to reach maximum capacity. I could actually do this by myself. Now, for the install. I pulled out our other booster and placed the BubbleBum in our car. In place of arm rest are seat belt positioning clips. It also has comes with a shoulder belt positioning strap. I actually felt as if these clips made the seat safer than my regular booster seat. I had my son climb in and take a seat so I could strap him in and see how it looked and felt. His first reaction was, “Ohh, nice and comfy.” It fit perfect and he loved it. It’s also compact enough that I could fit 3 of these side by side in my car if need be. The only downfall was that because of the seat belt positioning clips he could get himself unbuckled. Now, some people might be fine with that, but I like that my son can buckle and unbuckle himself. I could deflate it and get it back into the carrying bag, but it took some squeezing to get the air out. Not a big deal though. Once gain, for an extra seat though, I love it.
