I love taking pictures and my kitty usually lets me grab a few before he bails on me. Cats can be so temperamental! Beautiful Beasties, A Creative Guide to Modern Pet Photography has everything you need to take a high quality photo of your furry friends. I truly mean everything. This book is excellent for both professionals seeking a career or expanding one into pet photography and the pet lover always searching for the perfect snapshot of their pet companion. Nothing goes untouched in this manual. Lighting, composition and exposure techniques are all tailored for animal subjects. There is also helpful advice on challenges that arise when working with animals. Tips are given on how to communicate with animal subjects and how to deal with a disinterested pet. There is even advice on how to deal with pet owners.
The book has beautiful photos and is full of step by step instructions to help achieve the look you are after. How many times have you tried to photograph a black cat or dog and had it turn out horrible? This book can teach you how. I find although that it is highly geared towards professional photographers or people with a serious hobby in photography. It breaks down equipment and lighting. The nice part is that it also focuses on whether or not you should become a professional. Beautiful Beasties also includes advice on pricing, branding and how to go about marketing your work. I was inspired and can’t wait to try some of these tips while photographing my kitty!

I have taken some photos of my cats that reflect their personality but not often and not consistently. If I could take such photos I would use them on note cards so my family can see what I talk about.
