My boys had so much fun reading this book! Vegetabibbles by Kathryn Warren is quirky book that allows children to learn and love veggies. The illustrations and adventures that the Vegetabibbles go on teach the children fun facts about them. They also learn healthy habits without even knowing it. My boys are 8 and 6. We read the book together the other day. They absolutely enjoyed it and asked me to read it again. Their favorite part was the chickpeas! They not only identified the veggies, but the story taught them a fact that they might not have known. For instance, they now know that peas have B6 in them. Although they might not know what B6 is, they know where they can get it! My boys seemed engaged and interested in this book. I believe that one of the reasons is that they enjoy the mix of reality and fantasy.
Still not convinced that your kid would like this book? Well, my 6 year old picked it up off the counter this morning and said to me, ” We need 5 servings a day of vegetables mom. That’s a lot.” If that doesn’t convince you enough then I have to tell you that he read it by himself before the bus came this morning and even picked it up now as I’m typing this to read. As a parent I love the illustrations and how the simplicity of the story captured my children’s attention. To read a sample yourself go HERE! The earlier that a child is introduced to healthy eating the better as far as I’m concerned. In a nutshell, it’s a fun book with a good lesson and it would make a great gift.
