We have been completely caught up in a flurry of back-to-school action over here. It seems as if August was over in a blink and the cooler weather has started to move in. I’m buried under a ton of papers from school, sports, work, and other activities. I have to admit, I like the schedule that September brings. Maybe it’s because I feel more in control, or that it’s easier when things are mapped out for me. I can’t honestly say, but I do find it a time when I celebrate the new year ahead. My boys are just growing up so fast and this circle of life amazes me. This Summer was a magical time of growing for me as an adult and I can’t wait to see how I handle this next cycle of my life. I’m feeling strong, confident and secure. I hope to be able to help many people feel that way too. Welcome to the new year! Here is a piece of September.
This month I learned that:
10. everyone thinks they are busy. Sometimes even busier than everybody else. ( I hate the word “busy”, but that’s another story. The reality of the matter is that every single one of us has our challenges and unless you are living in someone else’s shoes you have no idea what their life is like. It’s not only about the activities, but the personalities involved. My busy might be easy for another person and vice versa. I’m just going to try to ride this out as much as I can and surrender to the “busy” in whatever form it might take in my life.)
9. no matter how prepared you might think you are somethings are just going to fall through the cracks and that’s okay. ( Guess who didn’t order backpacks till the last minute? The good part was that I waited long enough so I was able to get an awesome discount. The bad part was that I was hoping he’d make it through a week of school without the bottom falling out of his old backpack! We made it!)
8. when someone is constantly fishing for compliments it plucks my last nerve! ( I feel like just recording a standards message, “Yes, you are amazing.” Yes, your child is so super smart.” Yes, you look so amazing.” It’s exhausting, just stop it.)
7. I need to make more time for myself. ( Looking back at some goals I had set for myself, I’m finding that I’m not doing enough for me. I need to make myself more of a priority.)
6. inspirational quotes, poetry and a good song can boost the amount of positive energy I bring to my day. ( Try it! Every so often I find words that have special meaning to me and when I feel as if I just can’t anymore I read a message, quote, or listen to a great song. The positive energy fills my soul.)
5. there is no room to play the victim. ( You are responsible for your own happiness. If you don’t like the way someone is treating you then change the situation. It’s hard, but worth it. You are important.)
4. my husband truly is my best friend. ( Everyone seems to say that, but I think I just realized that it’s 100% the truth.)
3. it’s important to not take advantage of what you have been blessed with in this life. ( It can all too easily be lost in a blink of an eye.)
2. when writing notes about this post it would help if I could remember what all that short hand means. ( I write these vague notes then have no idea what I was talking about. What was I getting at when I scribbled, healthy snacks and 2 door car? I have no clue. I make healthy snacks and have a car with 2 doors, but that’s not a hint at all to what I might have been thinking.)
1. you have to stand up for what you believe in, even if makes you the least popular person around. ( I hate conflict, but what I hate more is disrespect. I’ll have more on this for you later, but remember that you need to be an example for your children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They learn what’s right and what’s wrong from you. In order to raise strong passionate children you need to be a strong passionate adult.
