I don’t know about you, but back- to -school has swept into my life like a tornado. I homeschool one child and have another that attends public school. We have sports practice and other after school activities so we are on the go all the time. Most families seem to be in the same boat. The week is a flurry of activity and work and more work. Here are some things that I have put into place to help us survive the back-to-school rush!
Top 3 Tips for Surviving Back-to-School:
1. Plan your week: I have a wipe off board and I let the kids know what is happening from day to day. We are able to look at the week at a glance and make our move from there.
2. Freezer meals: When I make a meal that I know can be frozen I usually double it. That way I know that when we are in a hurry or have a crazy schedule ahead of us I can just pull something homemade out of the freezer.
3. Take out menus in the glove compartment: Yes, we all run and run. Raise your hand if you have never fed your family in the car before practice. Not many of you huh? Regardless of what activities your child might be involved in we just can’t eat at the table every night. I keep coupons for meals and menus for local places in my car. That way in a pinch I can just order something up and try to spend some quality time with my boys. It relives the stress and I’m able to have more fun with my family.
McDonald’s Happy Meals have stepped it up a notch and have been able to provide more wholesome options for families on the go. Happy Meals now give you the option of ordering apple slices and Go-GURT® low fat Strawberry Yogurt . Later this Fall you’ll even be able to get Cuties clementines from Sun Pacific as a side as well. Together with 1% low-fat white milk, fat-free chocolate milk and 100% apple juice you can make your Happy Meal a better balanced meal for your kids. At $2.99 it’s an inexpensive, quick option for lunch or dinner. McDonald’s has heard you and want to make your meals better for your kids.

My wife would argue that the kids going back to school means she survived the summer break!! We survive the back to school shopping experience by buying far in advance. The key is to buy soon enough that the stuff is priced well, but early enough that the stuff is available.
