Well, well, well another year and here we go. I’m back to my usual routine, but with a few twists and turns to keep me on my toes. One of my goals this year is to get real with myself and step outside of my comfort zone. I’ve heard that’s where the magic happens. On this journey of mine I’ll be doing some cleaning up here on my blog and I have some new features I’ll be sharing with you. Be on the look out for my weekly recipes and time-saving tips for you home. As always I’ll be featuring fun giveaways, product reviews and much more on the entertainment home front! I can’t wait to get started. Here is a piece of what my year is looking like so far.
This month I learned that:
10. people seem to have no problem asking me for favors and such after not speaking to me for months. ( Hey, I know time gets away from people and that’s fine, but I have to limit the amount of energy I put out for others that aren’t there for me.)
9. taking that first step in any situation is the hardest. ( Really- any situation. It also can be the one you remember the most.)
8. as much as I like posting things on Facebook…the entire stalker thing is starting to bother me. ( I’ve talked about this before, but it really creeps me out when people start talking to me about things I’ve posted and 1. They never ever comment or like my stuff, but they seem to know way too much about my updates. 2. When someone’s spouse that I’m not friends with on Facebook starts commenting on my stuff and 3. When the ex tries to friend me and I deny the request and they decided to use the “Follow” button to follow me anyway. (Yes, I got rid of that option and blocked the crap out of everything that doesn’t have to do with this blog.) Creepy…..)
7. I really need to step up my game. ( My name is Milena and I avoid things that I might fail at. There it is folks my confession. Now that it’s out in the open let me get to work on it!)
6. kindness is contagious! ( A simple act can produce so many ripples. I’ve been trying to do something kind even if it’s ever so small every single day. My joy has grown.)
5. my boys have outgrown so many things and it happened in a blink of an eye. ( Everyone said this was going to happen, but I didn’t think it would happen all at once. This is just the beginning.)
4. sometimes you need to make a mess in order to clean up. ( You really don’t want to come to my house right now trust me. I am clearing spaces.)
3. life is better when we are all working together. (Just think about it. School, work, home, family, friends……it takes a village and sometimes YOU need to build that village!)
2. I waste a lot of time waiting for things to be perfect. ( This is probably the last bit of OCD left in me after I had children. It’s just never going to be perfect and I need to get over it and move! Life is too short!)
1. I am enough. ( Mantras help.)
Amy Orvin says
Only one thing. That is be careful with your back while doing chores or lifting. Before you know it, you can slip a disk and be down and hurtin’ for a month.
Milena Barrett says
A good tip considering that I have a bad back. Thanks!
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
I keep it pretty light over on Facebook. There are a couple of people who lurk on my page and I don’t like to give them too much ammo.
Jessica Beal Harlow says
I really like your quote! And, I can relate to a lot of what you learned this month! lol I often have to remind myself to keep stepping out of my comfort zone to grow. 🙂
Cathy says
I’ve learned that if you stay true to yourself and simply be who you are then really awesome things can happen….sometimes when you least expect it. Happy 2015 to you!
Milena Barrett says
That sounds great Cathy!

I keep my blog and personal accounts separated this way only people I know are privileged to my personal life. On blog page I only post stuff that is in my blog and is public knowledge.
Milena Barrett says
My accounts are separate too. I just happen to have a lot of “friends” that are just acquaintances. Trust me I’m not pouring my heart out on Facebook so I don’t even consider what I post “personal”.
Susan says
Such wisdom distilled down to 10 items. I, too, am enough!
maria @ close to home says
Must agree about how quickly kids grow, you want certain things to end and then its so sad when they do.
Annie {Stowed Stuff} says
I’ve learned that you can still have fun in the cold and life is what you make of it! I like your list!
Brittany says
LOVING this list! And yes ma’am…you are MORE than enough. You’ve inspired me to do some reflecting.
Jennifer B says
I totally agree with you on the Facebook thing! I have found out that people that I did not have on MY contact list somehow were able to view my daughter’s profile (hers is private like mine) and that bothers me a LOT. There is no way to keep your stuff private anymore it seems.
Lesley Tooley says
I love the quote 🙂
lisa says
I learned that I often take on too much and I need to slow down and enjoy life.
Debbie L. says
I really like your list. Kindness is contagious!
Pam says
Kindness really is contagious. It’s so inspiring how one simple act of kindness can cause so many others.
Kelly Hutchinson says
Wow! So many of the items on this list hit close to home. I too wait to be perfect and I need to let that go. I also need to take that first (scary) step.
Heather says
Lots of great learnings this month and so very true! I like the last one… you are enough, I am enough!
Debbie says
That is true. Be honest and true to yourself. Nice post.
Maggie @ The Love Nerds says
#4 has always been very real for me – it always gets messier before it’s cleaned and organized.
Jen says
Remember the “Summer of George” on Seinfeld? This is the Year of Jen. Yes, it’s about my family, too, but I have to do things to better me for ME!
Liz Mays says
I like the idea of keeping track of significant things I learn. Kindness is definitely contagious, sometimes we just need a reminder.
Lois Alter Mark says
That’s a lot to learn in just 3 weeks! That quote at the top is dead-on.
Rosey says
The kids do grow in a blink of an eye. I love it, and I hate it. If that makes a lick of sense.
Milena Barrett says
It totally makes sense!
Rebekah says
“7. I really need to step up my game. ( My name is Milena and I avoid things that I might fail at. There it is folks my confession. Now that it’s out in the open let me get to work on it!)” <— THIS I do this too. I tell people that my biggest fear is failure – and I hate when I notice how it's holding me back.
Danielle says
These tips are so insightful! I rarely allow myself to get overworked in my mind about things, but admittedly, blogging was starting to do that to me. I’ve promised myself to put a stop to that, it isn’t worth it, and only blog when I really want to. It’s a huge difference!
Kaitlin Johns says
Great post!! I totally agree with this “my boys have outgrown so many things and it happened in a blink of an eye” .. I can’t believe my son is now 11 and too cool for toys and for mom. And my 1 y/o daughter is exploring everything around her.. I need to take more time to sit back and cherish these limited moments. time flies
Mama to 5 BLessings says
My father passed away earlier this month with heart disease, this runs in my family so I need to step it up – lose the weight and exercise because I do not wind up like him!
Rebecca Parsons says
For me I find bringing my thoughts into a list are quite liberating. Great list of them.
Becca Wilson says
Amazing thoughts and insights. I learned a lot in January as well. I learned that I need to start living life for me and my family and to not please everyone around me ALL THE TIME.
Robin says
Being new to your blog it’s nice to know that you share many of the same sentiments as myself. Thanks for the reminder that kindness is contagious. Even a smile can make a huge difference in my day, whether I give or get one!
cgould4178 says
You sure learned a lot for just one month. I can’t think of one thing I learned in January, except maybe I’m not a winter person. Thanks for sharing!
