Somehow August snuck up on us and already is on its way out! We are trying to squeeze in every last bit of Summer fun. As much as I like pool and beach time, the truth is that I’m a Fall kind of girl. I love the clothes, the temperature, the food, and I could just go on and on! We took a road trip this month, attended a wedding and several blogger events. We have been a busy crew. The learning never ends…….
This August I learned that:
10. some people don’t understand that being on social media is my business. ( I’m a blogger. I make money posting on social media. I’m not bored and posting photos of myself and my kids for fun. So, please stop commenting on how often I post.)
9. vegetarian food can be hard to find when you are traveling. ( How much salad can one person eat? If I had one more person say, “We have salad.” I was going to scream!)
8. not everyone down South is outright nice! ( We had the nastiest encounter in a restaurant in Wilmington, NC. I just couldn’t believe how mean the hostess and waitress were to us.)
7. the best places are usually the least expected. ( We stopped at this Mexican restaurant/shop in a strip mall and it was awesome! So, small, crowded with stuff, but the food and service were amazing! We loved it! They had made a special vegetarian entree for my little guy!)
6. they should name a rest area after me with all the times I need to stop. ( My husband even thinks so. It must be true!)
5. you shouldn’t bother doing your hair for a beachfront wedding. ( I should have listened to the bride when she told me the night before not to bother with my hair. What a mess! I’m glad I bought a hair clip with me!)
4. I don’t have the balls to say everything I want in this thread because someone might get offended. ( I always seem to get an email that says, “Were you talking about me?”. Ugh! Maybe?!)
3. I’m sorry, but not sorry for having my moments of being judgy! ( We all have them. I’m learning to live with it. )
2. entitlement isn’t just a disease that the younger set have- I’m finding more and more of my peers whining about things that they seem to think should belong to them. ( I’m just so over everyone whining. In a nutshell- the rules apply to everyone- you are not special- everyone has to work for it!)
1. I don’t handle the heat and humidity well. ( I hate air conditioning, my hair gets crazy looking, and it just makes me tired. I love where I live and the changing of the seasons.)

I love it! I love every single one of your life lessons. Sometimes things just need to be said and I like the way you say it.

I can relate to the heat and humidity. it finally broke today and I’m enjoying working outside. Finally! Fall is almost here!!!!

Hmm, well in August I learned that I am stronger than I expected I was. I learned that working out with my husband is actually fun and I learned that I really REALLY need a career change. Now I am just going through the motions to do it!

I am with you on the heat and humidity. I could handle it as a kid, but this Texas weather is killing me – I need some cooler climate!

I fight entitlement with my kids every day. I hate hearing all the things that they don’t have – especially when they have so much. Life is full and they need to find the grateful in all we have. It’s a life lesson more people should want to learn.

You had me at number 10! I know everyone doesn’t understand what bloggers and social media consultant/managers do. I have to learn to just let it roll off my back when anyone has something to say about what I’m doing on my phone, etc.

Love this post! I agree with #10 so much…people don’t seem to understand that being a blogger is a job like being a doctor or being a chef (it’s definitely not as respected as it should be). They seem to think “well, all you do is post pretty pictures and write a couple of words a day…how hard is that?” To the doubters and the incredulous, I challenge them to try blogging as a job. Getting my mathematics degree was easier.

Your post made me chuckle! I tend to have to stop at all rest areas too. I’ve lived in the South for a long time and you’re right, not everyone is nice.
Beth says
I love your forthrightness. We can all use a little of that!!

I loved reading your post and can’t agree more to #1 as I also feel the same thing many times!

This made me giggle a little. Most of my family don’t get what I do on the blog & social media, but that’s ok. Heat and humidity are my enemy and I actually love A/C.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned this August is that I can’t do it all. I’ve been running myself into a rut and I realized I just have to do what I can and get to the rest when I can.

your post cracked me up as I could have said a lot of the same thing. I learned that the summer went by waaaaaay too fast & school sucks as I have to get up early too. 😉

I agree with all of the above. I’m in my 30’s and it’s taken me 10 years to finally say I’m not apologizing to anyone for having those thoughts. Lol.
I’m still laughing about everything you said. So so true.

In August, I learned that I am bouncing back from disappointments better than I used to. If I give myself a little space to feel what I need to feel, I’ve been pretty okay after that, instead of lingering like I have in the past.

Love this post! Heat and food for me in general don’t mix. I try to eat lightly if I am going to be in the heat for long periods of time.

Love this! You’re a very reflective person. Good for you!

I really love airconditioning. I almost ran out of a family wedding because of no AC.But I decided it would be in very bad spirit.I also learned the world is full of good people. You get encouragement from unexpected places.I hate entitlement syndrome as well.Working for it is fun

What a fabulous list! I need a rest area named after me, too!

I’m not handling the heat and humidity well either! Let me tell you- it doesn’t get better. I can’t wait for Fall!

Lol love it, a few of those gave me a giggle!

I’m from the South (but now live in the midwest) and there are some pretty rude people there. I feel you about the blogging/social media. After pursuing blogging full time, I understand now it is a job and a lot of work and creativity. It’s not just posting a bunch of stuff. It truly takes a lot of thought and planning. Don’t let negative people bring you down! Keep working hard at what you love!
