Come and celebrate Ferragosto with Barone Fini and ITrulli restaurant on August 15 in New York City. I Trulli is located at 122 East 27th Street between Lexington and Park Avenues. This event will benefit The Food Bank of New York City. Barone Fini wines and I Trulli have created a celebratory menu and for every glass of Barone Fini wine poured, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to The Food Bank of New York City. Amazing! I was able to sample the menu and wine that is going to be served and amazing doesn’t even begin to describe it.
For those of you that don’t know, Ferragosto is an Italian holiday celebrated on August 15th. It originated as a celebration of the Italian harvest. It has been celebrated by both peasants and aristocrats alike. Today, the tradition continues and is marked by parties, feasts, and fireworks. I Trulli is the perfect place to celebrate here in New York City. It is one of the cities landmarks of fine Italian dining. On August 15th, I Trulli will feature a four-course meal paired with Barone Fini wines for $58, plus $10 per glass of Barone Fini wine.
When I arrived at I Trulli I was greeted by Giovanni Bonmartini-Fini. He serves as the President of Barone Fini, overseeing the winery’s production. They produce quality wine at an affordable price. Barone Fini dates back to 1497 when two noble Venetian families united in marriage and began producing wine.
The meal began with Antipasti Della Casa. (Chef’s appetizers for the table) We feasted on salad, Panzerotti Classici (Crispy baby calzones), fresh baked bread and Heirloom tomatoes with fresh mozzarella, while we listened to Giovanni speak about his business and country. He introduced us to Dora Marzovilla. Her son, Nicola Marzovilla is the owner of I Trulli and she hand rolls the pasta there daily.
Dora Marzovilla also makes the meatballs at I Trulli. Sorry mom, but this is the first I loved another woman’s meatballs! Moist and full of taste in a wonderful authentic red sauce. I could have just eaten these and have been thrilled.
I’m still on the first course here, by the way! Polpo, an octopus salad with black chickpeas, potatoes and a fennel aioli made its way out us. This salad paired with a Barone Fini Pinot Grigio was melt in your mouth delicious. Did you know that Americans drink more Pinot Grigio than any other white wine? I can see why. I know its my favorite white
While more Barone Fini Pinot Grigio was poured we received our Primi Piatti, a Tonnarelli with Frutti di Mare. Once again Dora’s hand rolled pasta is a winner. I’m normally not a seafood pasta gal, but I couldn’t resist this dish. The seafood was perfectly cooked and complimented the homemade pasta.
Barone Fini Merlot Trentino made it’s appearance for Secondi Piatti. Here you have your choice of meals. I chose the Spigola Nera ( local black bass, sauteed summer vegetables). The other choices are Tagliata (waygu flatiron steak, cialledda) or Pollo ( chicken cutlet milanese, Dora’s giardiniera). Every dish that passed before looked wonderful. My bass was cooked well and my vegetables were amazing. I felt as if I had been whisked away to Italy.
The Dolci on the Ferragosto menu is Panna Cotta with coconut, mango and pineapple. You aren’t going to believe this, but I missed dessert! From what I heard, it was unfortunate that I needed to leave because this dish received rave reviews.
Are you hungry yet? Want to help support The Food Bank of New York? Make your reservations and make your way to I Trulli on August 15th. Be sure to pair your meal with Barone Fini wines and celebrate!
Buon Ferragosto!
