Southside With You Available Now!
Southside With You was sent my way to review and I turned it into a romantic movie night. American style! Apple pie and all! I had missed the theater release that I was dying to see, so when the opportunity came to review the Blu-ray at home I was all over that! My husband was all over the apple pie!
About Southside With You:
Inspired by President Barack Obama’s first “date” with the First Lady, the touching and inspirational romance, Southside with You arrives on Digital HD November 29 and on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD), DVD and On Demand December 13 from Lionsgate and MIRAMAX®. Tika Sumpter (Ride Along franchise) and Parker Sawyers (Zero Dark Thirty) “are terrifically cast as younger versions of Michelle and Barack Obama“ (Variety) in this moving look at the very beginnings of the couple we now know as the President and First Lady of the United States. From executive producer John Legend (Academy Award® winner for Best Original Song, Selma, 2015) and written and directed by Richard Tanne, this “beautiful tribute to enduring love” (RogerEbert.com) received the Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh rating, and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
On a summer’s day in 1989, a law associate named Barack Obama used all his charms to woo attorney Michelle Robinson. Southside with You brings that magical encounter to life as it follows Barack and Michelle on a day-long date that takes them from an art exhibit to a screening of Do the Right Thing to an unforgettable first kiss.
Take a Look:
My husband and I watched this film and we both enjoyed it. The casting was perfect. I could completely envision Parker Sawyer and Tika Sumpter as the young Michelle and Barack Obama. If I closed my eyes Parker’s voice truly captured the calm and cool of our POTUS. Sumpter is strong yet graceful as a young Michelle. When I was watching this I felt as if I was brought back in time, as if I was let in on a secret. That’s what makes it powerful! You feel as if you are on this date with the couple. It also helped me reminisce about my first date with my husband and how far we have come from that first day. Whether or not you are a fan of our First Family or not this film is worth the watch. It made me believe that the ordinary can at any time turn into the extraordinary. Moments matter.
The Blu-ray and DVD releases both include commentary with writer/director Richard Tanne and original art and animations from the film’s pre-production. Southside with You is available on Blu-ray and DVD for $24.99 and $19.98, respectively.
