Learning never ends and unfortunately some lessons repeat themselves until we really do learn from them. I seem to think as we get older we become less petty, but sometimes its high school all over again. It’s a shame that some people never grow. It took me awhile to grow and I feel like I’m in the thick of it right now. It feels good and scary all at the same time. I’m thinking I might need to start a new blog because I’ve outgrown this place. I don’t know. I suppose I’m just thinking I need a change. Until then, here we go…..
This time I am learning that:
10. I am so over the mom eye roll. ( This happens when one mom judges another mom. I hate watching it. I hated it and still do when it happens to me. I have learned that we all have our own ways of doing things and that is okay. There is no need to judge. If it works for you then it’s a good thing regardless of how others view it. There aren’t any winners here.)
9. I can’t trust people who talk about other people then kiss their ass when they are in front of them. ( I don’t know who I feel sorry for more in this situation. The person doing the chatting isn’t feeling too good about themselves if they need to throw someone under bus and the person getting their ass kissed has no idea that they are despised. Sad all around.)
8. my son has grown into an amazing young man. ( He’s not only a good winner, but a good loser. I find that such an important quality. Sometimes, you need to lose in order to win. He sure won my heart.)
7. unfollowing people on Facebook has both pros and cons. ( The pros- I have nothing to be annoyed about now and I didn’t hurt anyones feelings by “unfriending” them. The con- I have nothing to complain about now. LOL!)
6. I can face people with a huge pimple on my face and still feel good about myself. ( This is a big milestone for me. I still have this giant thing on my face and I’m okay with it. Fate tested me with bringing on a cold sore too. I’m like a leper colony over here, but I still like myself.)
5. I’m still not sure whether it was smart or psycho of me to save old emails from people who were unkind to me. ( Honestly, there have been 4 people in my life that have sent me the most horrible emails. I saved them in case I needed to back up our interactions. I did have to use 2 of them two different times to prove a point. One at school and one to an organization to prove I was being harassed. I stumbled across one the other day when cleaning my email box and I can’t even believe I let this person in my life. )
4. you can’t delete an entire mailbox at once from your email. ( If you know a secret way please tell me! I messaged help and they said it’s not possible. I’m using an old email address for a new venture and well I have over 9999+ in my inbox. I’m still trying to delete!)
3. no one can do it “all” alone. ( Don’t let anyone fool you about this one. If you have people “helping” you then YOU are not doing it all. I ran around like a maniac last Saturday because I had no help. It was exhausting and I know I am not the only one. Be kind to folks you never know what they have happening in their life. )
2. my whole family is socially awkward. ( Yes, we have no hope. The husband, myself, and both my guys are complete individuals and have a hard time blending in. It can be lonely and funny at the same time. I’m learning that I wouldn’t change it for the world. )
1. I probably will never stop being surprised at people. ( Just when I think I have heard it all, I realize I haven’t. )

So much of what you said resonated with me! I have been struggling with “mom friends” lately and it’s exhausting to discover middle school never truly ends. From one socially awkward mama to another- maybe we aren’t awkward, just genuine <3

These are wonderful things to be picking up on! Oh gosh, the dreaded inbox backup! I think everyone has this problem.

It’s great that you take stock in the little learning experiences. Not everything in life is a huge lesson, but the little ones really do add up to a much happier life and outlook.

You are one of the realest people and I love that about you. This is so well written and thoughtful. I have realized many of the same things you listed here.

I am learning that not everyone is who they say they are. I am also still learning that I am enough.

We use to be around a lot of people who would run their mouths about people and turn around and be their best friends in person. I always made sure to keep as much distance between me and them as possible

Oh, I am so with you. The older I get, the less tolerant I am of people who talk about others. And I have unfriended more people on FB over the past year than ever before – and I feel much lighter because of it!

OMG I Can’t stand people or talk smack and then kiss the persons ass. One of my biggest pet peeves about people.

Life lessons never seem to end, do they? I have to say that I am beyond trying to please anyone but myself in my life. If other people don’t like what I do, I frankly don’t really care.

I love how confident you are now! I can feel mine growing as I get old as well. I’m with you on moving her. I love that you shared this!
Jennifer says
Oh my goodness and number 9 I CAN’T STAND! I’m so with you on these.

Great list, good lessons. I am learning too, this weeks lesson is that sometimes, no matter what we do, no matter what we say, we cannot control or change a person and it is not a reflection of who we are. It is a hard one, but I am working on it.

Love number 2. As someone that is also socially awkward, at least you all have each other haha!

I love what you have learned, they are important lessons! I agree about so many of these, the one that sticks out if the one about trusting other people who you know gossip about someone and then act fine to their face. These is proof of how loyal they are and can be trusted.

Get rid of those unkind emails. No reason to keep rehashing that hurt. (Although I do the same thing).

Just get rid of those unkind emails. No reason to keep rehashing that hurt. (Although I do the same thing).

You only have 9999 emails in your inbox? Do you not know many people/organizations/businesses/blogging guru’s who have all the answers? LoL I have about 30K in mine … and I try unsubscribing – and they say it takes up to 10 days – but that 10th day never comes. Funny that when you SUBSCRIBE – you get an instant email and 3 or 4 more later that day and every day after. I’ve tried deleting 100 emails a day – but when you’re GETTING about 100 daily – it makes it kind of hard. UGH!!! My blog is 7 years old and so far – I don’t even have a newsletter – and may never – because I don’t want to aggravate others like others aggravate ME 🙂

I cannot find one of these that I couldn’t relate to! The struggle is real! You just put everything out there that I am always thinking. I sure wish everyone I know or have ever come in contact with could/WOULD read this! Great post!!

Love this! Im learning that my kids are kids. I have such high expectations of them and I often am a bit too strict. I need to pull back a bit.
