So, alittle over a month ago I posted a junk drawer challenge. Click HERE to view. Basically, I asked readers to pick a drawer or 2 empty it of everything and only put back in items you actually use. The other items. (I might need this item) were to go in a box for a month. If you don’t need then within a month then they get donated.
So- how did I do? Only 1 item made it’s way back into my kitchen drawers. Check out these before and after photos.
You’d think I’d be thrilled, but actually I’m not. This experiment really got me to think about all the excess I have in my life. It’s about more than my drawers. Also could I try this again with the same drawers and still have items that I don’t use.
I also began to do this with my closet. I think I had enough bedding for a small hotel chain. Why? So, I bagged and donated. I can’t believe that I can actually see the floor in my closet. My husband asked me what I was doing when he came in and I had the entire contents of my closet all over our bedroom. I think he almost had a stroke when I told him I was moving. Pretend moving that is, baby.
I don’t know if I even want to begin to embarass myself with the amount of kids toys and clothes I removed from their rooms and the house in general. Did they notice? Nope! I think it’s hard to notice when there is still so much left. I’m going back in again soon. I’ll be having one hell of a yard sale this Summer.
Lesson Learned: Always ask the questions: Do I really need this? Will this make my life easier? Also, just because it’s free or inexpensive doesn’t justifiy it a space in your home.
