So, I bought my boys a butterfly kit. You purchase a butterfly habitat and mail in a coupon for your caterpillars. The boys enjoyed watching what was first larvae grow into caterpillars. It was a little gross for me because they wanted to have them at the table for every meal. The cute part was when they each came home from school they rushed to see the caterpillars.
They then attach themselves to the top of the container which you remove and pin inside the habitat. This is when the waiting begins!
That’s the habitat in the back- my boys had it in their room. My little guy actually got to see one bust out of his cocoon. Too cool!
You feed them orange slices and sprinkle sugar water on flowers for them to drink.
You can keep them inside for up to 2 weeks, but we chose to release them.
I know this isn’t my usual post type, but I wanted to share this with you. I thought this was such a cool thing to do with the kids. They learned so much and I really enjoyed sharing this experience with them. We bought our kit at Toys R Us, but you can buy them online HERE at Insect Lore.
Let me know if you’ve done this before and how it went for you.
