I love these old illustrations. I like to think about a time when sexy wasn’t obvious, but something that you secretly caught a glance of sometime. As, a mom I’d still like to think I’m sexy, but not in an obvious way. It helps me with my confidence and nobody ever has to know. Here is what I did today to bring my sexy back.
1. I exercised. I know (yuck) but feeling my muscles move and getting all hot and sweaty actually helps me feel alive. I feel more confident and have more energy. It takes a great amount of effort for me to wake up early, but it’s something I’ve committed to do for myself. It’s something just for me.
2. I painted my toe nails. Some people feel the need to have a professional pedicure/manicure done, but I hate people touching nails. ( I know, it’s weird) I’ve only had my nails done maybe 8 times in my life. Toes maybe 3 times. I do it all myself. I use cuticle oil and trim and polish. I feel super sexy when my toe nails are painted. You don’t need to have this done for you, you can take the time to do it yourself, you deserve it.
3. I put on a cute little sundress with slip on sandals to show off my nails. You don’t need to save those dresses for an occasion. Everytime you show up somewhere it’s an occasion- remember that!
4. I rubbed my arms and legs with Burt’s Bees Body Lotion. It natural and has some shimmer to it. When your skin hits the sun it shines, it subtle yet sexy.
So, this is my sexy list for the day. How about yours? Simple things can add up to simply having a great day. Your a mom not a machine and you should find pleasure in the small things. I find it a cop out when a mom says, ” I don’t have anytime for myself.” Sure, I’ve used this line before, but only you can give yourself the time you need, even if you have to take it. I was finding exercise hard to fit in, so now I wake up an hour earlier. Yes, I’d rather be sleeping, but honestly I can’t believe how much more time I have during the day just by giving myself that hour. It has actually turned into a gift instead of a hardship.
Simple acts of kindness towards yourself, facials, girls nights, soaking in a tub are essential to being a great mom. If you feel good about yourself, you’ll teach your kids to feel good about themselves. The art of self care is an important one to learn.
