I have a huge issue with using cleaning products made with chemicals in my kitchen. Even more so, where my food actually gets cooked. The idea of spraying chemicals in anything that has a door that closes really grosses me out. Now, the microwave is bad enough. We all know, at least I hope we do, that we just shouldn’t be using one. Alas, the convenience factor kind of out weighs the risk for most people. We tried living without one, but people found out it weird and inconvenient when they were over our home. Oh, well. So here we are and it’s filthy. Disclosure: I never let it get this bad, but I wanted it beyond dirty for this post!
Here is my recipe to clean your microwave:
Microwave Cleaner:
1 cup water
1 TBS lemon juice and a few lemon slices
Put ingrdients in a microwave safe bowl and cook in the microwave for 4 minutes. I actually used slices and juice in my bowl. The water should boil for at least 30 seconds. Then let the bowl sit in the microwave for 15 minutes. Remove the water and wipe down the ceiling and walls. Everything should just come off without scrubbing. I hate scrubbing. Here are my results:
Clean, clean, clean! As always, it worked great. My one suggestion is that if you have the glass revolving plate you remove it before you clean. The only place I had to scrub was under the glass plate. Even that was minimal, I dipped my cleaning rag into the water/lemon mixture and it wiped right off.
Happy green cleaning!

Hi, Thanks for the green tip! I used your lemon suggestion, but I put the lemon inside a bowel of water, microwaved for five minutes and then used a clean wash cloth with the hot lemon water and wiped, works like a dream.
