School has just started and I don’t know about you, but our schedule has started to become hectic. I need to have something handy for a healthy and tasteful quick fix at meal times. We aren’t perfect, but that doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice healthy ingredients or taste for convenience. I make my own sauce, but I always keep a few jars at the ready. I have spent so much time reading labels to find the best products for my family. This time I got lucky and a great product found me! I was just introduced to La Famiglia DelGraosso all natural pasta sauces. Here is what I got to try:
Aunt Mary Ann’s Sunday Marinara:
INGREDIENTS: Imported Whole Italian Plum Tomatoes, Imported Olive Oil, Crushed Tomatoes, Fresh Onions, Sea Salt, Garlic, Basil, Black Pepper, and Parsley.
There is NO SUGAR and it’s GLUTEN FREE
I served this to my family on Sunday (really) on top of mini cheese ravioli. The verdict: success! The kids didn’t try to pick things out of it and my husband didn’t complain that it came from a jar. I don’t even think he knew except for the fact that he saw the jar. I found the texture to be just like homemade, thick and consistent. The smell entranced everyone. A hit!
I also got to try: Uncle Fred’s Fireworks Sauce
INGREDIENTS: Imported Whole Italian Plum Tomatoes, Crushed Tomatoes, Imported Olive Oil, Zucchini, Crushed Tomatoes, Fresh Onions, Organic Sugar, Sea Salt, Garlic, Basil, Crushed Red Pepper, and White Pepper.
There is ORGANIC SUGAR and it’s GLUTEN FREE!
So, you ask what is Fireworks Sauce?
Every 4th of July, crowds gather for a premier fireworks show at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park in Tipton, Pennsylvania. Back in the park kitchen, family members line up for a taste of our Uncle Fred’s Fireworks Sauce. Fred explains, “I use the freshest zucchini, garlic and onions from my garden with just the right amount of spices to make this tangy, tasty favorite.” But be warned, if he catches you standing around the kitchen he’ll probably put you to work.
OH- my favorite! You can see the pieces of zucchini in it. Just the right amount of spicy for me and I’m serving it to hubby for dinner tonight on top of some al dente penne. Now, I know my little guy will want me to pick the zucchini out, but my other guy will love it.
Eating dinners together as a family are very important in my household. In addition to being a great way to bond as a family, studies have shown that dinners benefit your kids, according to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse’s annual study on family eating:
- Kids who eat most often with their parents are 40 percent more likely to get mainly A’s and B’s in school
- Compared to teens who have frequent family dinners, those who have infrequent family dinners are twice as likely to have used tobacco and almost twice as likely to have used alcohol
DelGrosso sauces also offer a series of recipes on line so you can see what else you can make with your sauce. It’s not just a pasta topping! Click HERE to view the collection.
