I’m starting to put together plans for a holiday get together with family and friends. Nothing formal. I will be having an appetizer station and a dessert station. I’ve told you all, time and time again- I am not a baker! I don’t stress about it too much because of the ability to buy and use premixed products. I make a fantastic brownie although I do need to work on the presentation a bit. I just don’t get it. It tastes soooooo good, but it might not be your first choice on a dessert platter.
My favorite holiday treat is red velvet cupcakes! I made these for my son’s first birthday party. The kids always get a kick out of the red cupcakes! They are like magic. If you want to get crazy you can always put a little green food coloring in the frosting and make it a real holiday treat!. To add snow, throw on some shredded coconut for a unique taste. Adults love the thrill of a cupcake as much as kids do. Don’t let them fool you!
For my spread I like to put on a pot of coffee, offer various cookies, a pie, cupcakes, brownies, and my special Tiramisu! I always keep ice cream and whipped cream handy just in case. Offering a little something special to put in the coffee always adds to the holiday fun. By something special I mean a little Khalua or Sambucca to keep the excitement of the night going.
So, I might go a little crazy this year and try doing red velvet cupcakes shaped like gingerbread men! These looked so cute when I saw them on line. Should I get crazy? I feel like a bit of a failure lately so if these go right it could up my self esteem. If not, I don’t believe I’ll be any worse off. What are your favorite dessert items? I’d like to know.
