I have been sick for about a week now, but I was not going to let that stop me from taking my boys to see Freckleface The Musical. This Off-Broadway hit is based on the book Freckleface Strawberry by Julianne Moore. Believe it or not there was a time when this gorgeous Oscar Nominated beauty was just a little girl with red-hair and freckles that longed to be like everybody else. The musical is a wonderful piece of work that lets kids see all types of different characters and learn that it’s okay to be yourself. Here is more about our theater experience:
Well, when my husband caught a glimpse of the poster he was like, “oh great!”. (Insert sarcasm there.) This is about the kids I stressed not about us, but boy was he surprised. He was probably the toughest critic and he loved it. He admitted that he was not looking forward to watching the show, but found it really enjoyable. He actually said, “That was a great show.” Not only did our children have a blast, but we had a good time watching their faces. They laughed and even did some head bopping to the catchy tunes. I don’t know how else to put it, but this is not your typical dorky kids show. The cast is lovely and believable as children. The music and lyrics are meaningful, heartfelt, and not dumbed down for children. The theater was quiet and engaged which is a miracle for a children’s production. I believe the audience was captivated by the actors performances.
I also want to point out that I have 2 boys. This show is for every child and every age will enjoy the music and the message. For more buzz on Freckleface the Musical visit MamaDrama on BroadwayWorld.com
