Today the animated family feature film Space Dogs is available for purchase on DVD, on demand and digital release. My boys and I were able to get a sneak peak this awesome movie from Phase 4 Films. Space Dogs is is based on the true story of Belka and Stelka, the first dogs in space. In 1960 two Russian dogs were sent to space. This is their story. A circus dog and a stray dog embark on an out of this world journey to become the world’s most famous doggie astronauts.
Review:
First I’d like to say that I loved the animation. The colors, the scenes, and the characters are beautiful. My boys loved the story. It was the perfect mix of fantasy and reality for my 8 and 6 year old boys. We shared some laughs as the characters make their way through this journey and into space. I also enjoyed the music and songs that were featured in this movie. Here is the scoop right from my boys:
Noah 8: “My favorite part was when they were training to go into space. It was hard at first, but they kept trying and they did it! They went to space.”
Owen 6: “I liked the entire part when they were in space. All of it!”
Well, there you have it! When the credits are rolling we get to see pictures and video of the “real” space dogs, and my boys were interested in watching the credit roll both times they watched this film. It real interested them to see the real dogs. Now, I’m saving as a surprise for later, but the DVD also comes with a downloadable activity kit, stills gallery and trailer. I can’t wait to do some activities with them. I’m sure they will be surprised.
Disclosure: Thank you to Phase 4 Films for providing me and my family with a copy of this film. All thoughts belong to my boys and myself are honest and heartfelt.
