My husband were treated to Gina Gionfriddo’s play Rapture, Blister, Burn at the Playwrights Horizons Theater this past Saturday. It was definitely another hit for us. At first my husband was a bit unsure if this show was form him. Not only is this show written by a woman, but it contains a powerful female cast including Amy Brenneman ( “Judging Amy”, “Private Practice”), Beth Dixon (Wings), Virgina Kull (Assistance), and Kellie Overbey (The Coast of Utopia). The sole male character, Don, is played by Lee Tergesen (“Oz”, Good Boys and True). It turned out he was wrong. He loved the show as I did. The acting was phenomenal, I mean with that cast how could it not be!
Here is a bit about the play:
After grad school, Catherine and Gwen chose polar opposite paths. Catherine built a career as a rockstar academic, while Gwen built a home with her husband and children. Decades later, unfulfilled in polar opposite ways, each woman covets the other’s life, commencing a dangerous game of musical chairs — the prize being Gwen’s husband. With searing insight and trademark wit, this comedy is an unflinching look at gender politics in the wake of 20th century feminist ideals.
It’s a fantastic show that makes you ask yourself many important questions. It’s funny, true, and thought provoking all at once. Don’t miss this one.

My husband and I were able to attend Rapture, Blister, Burn thanks to Playtime! Playtime! is the first program to provide childcare during theatrical performances. Your kids get to enjoy a cultural experience of their own while you are enjoying a show. The art-sitters at Playtime! lead the children through a themed program that includes music, dance, and art. The children enjoy a healthy snack and are cared for the entire time of your show. The cost is $15 per child regardless of the length of your show. It’s affordable and fun. My boys look forward to going to Playtime! and spending time with their favorite art-sitters. The staff is always bright and friendly when we’ve attended and I love that we get a written report on what our boys did, how they behaved and what snacks they have eaten. Playtime! has allowed our family time to go back to the theater in a convenient and affordable way. Playtime! is for children ages 4-12 that are potty trained. Checkout Playtime! and the great shows being offered right now. Go back to the theater this Summer!
Disclosure: My family was provided with tickets and childcare from Playtime! and Mama Drama. All thoughts belong to me and my family.
