It’s one of my favorite times of the year. The time when I purge my home of unwanted items then hit the thrift store for new items! Yes, the thrift store has sales! This is one of those times. When people unload the thrift store fills up and they need to unload, too. Now, I had posted a few times about my love of the thrift store and some people seemed repulsed by it. Here it what I know, I love recycling items as much as I love new items. I love that I was just able to buy a pair of snowpants, 2 polar fleece shirts, a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt ( all brand names)for $5.00. The snowpants were my big find. I hate the cold weather and spend most of my time indoors. Today we had a snowday and I was able to put on my snowpants and run around outside with my boys. My girlfriend was right, I didn’t even feel the cold. The snowpants were more than worth the five dollars.
My defense is this: even if thrift stores aren’t your thing they can allow you try things you otherwise might not try or don’t see worth buying into. I would never have gone to a store and purchased snowpants. Today however, I had a blast in them and can’t see my life without them. The other plus for stopping by a thrift store after the holidays is that people tend to unload unwanted gifts. One persons garbage is another’s treasure and you can get new items this time of year. Think future gifts, or possibly something that you can use. I once got a new set of kitchen towels and potholders for less than a dollar. Put on some pounds over the holidays, but plan to lose them? This is it! Buy things that fit you that don’t much and you can easily discard when you lose the weight! My local thrift stores are having $5 basket sales. Everything you can fit into a small laundry basket is $5. The other place I frequent is having their famous quarter sale. That’s right a quarter an item! It’s kind of like a scavenger hunt.
So next time you drop off take a peek inside and see what type of treasures you can find.
