Communication Skills For Dummies (For Dummies (Language & Literature)) is my latest For Dummies book review. I picked this book because honestly, who couldn’t use a little help communicating? especially, in this day and age when communication is beyond just speaking and writing, it is also writing emails and having video communications with people as well. This book touches on all of those things.
Here are some lessons explored in the book:
- Listen, learn, and communicate: Learn how to actively listen and clearly define what you want to communicate.
- Tear down barriers to effective communication: Learn how to make a connections without preconceptions and prejudices.
- Show them you mean it: Control every aspect of your delivery, this mean hand gestures, facial expressions and tone of your voice.
- Adjust your attitude: This can make or break your efforts to effectively communicate and establish connections.
My Thoughts:
This book would be a great asset to someone entering college or the workplace for the first time, as well as a guide for anyone that wants to improve their communication skills. As with any “For Dummies” books you don’t need to read the book straight through to get value from it. It is actually encouraged for you to bounce from chapter to chapter learning what you need to know. Icons are used to highlight valuable points and tips. I especially got alot out of the sections dealing with modern technology. I still find that people are struggling to communicate effectively through emails and texting. This book offered useful information that I certainly am going to put into play. I also love the part of tens listed in the back of book which quickly breaks down 10 ways to communicate effectively and 10 tips for speaking face to face.
As always, “For Dummies” books delivers another winner for easy to read and understanding a topic. Checkout Communication Skills For Dummies (For Dummies (Language & Literature)) and sharpen up your skills!

I got a book like this on Overcoming Procrastination, and you guessed it, I haven’t gotten around to reading it. I could also benefit from this one.
