So, the Good Cook Halloween party continues! If you remember from my previous post: “When a Non-Baker Makes a Haunted Cookie House,” Good Cook sends me products from time to time to review and included in my Monster party kit was this awesome cupcake stand! All it takes to take a so-so party to awesome are a few simple touches and this cupcake stand from Sweet Creations by Good Cook makes it easy.
To create my Halloween perfect cupcakes I used a Red Velvet cake mix. As a “non-baker” mix is my friend and I love red velvet. It works for a variety of seasons and for Halloween red spells -B-L-O-O-D! The red velvet paired well with the Haunted Cupcake Display and Halloween cupcake papers that I also received. The kids thought it was cool. I made half the mix with cupcakes and then tried to make cake pops with the Sweet Creations by Good Cook cake pop mold. It was an epic fail. Not a huge surprise for the non-baker and a huge laugh for my friends. I wish I was able to make Halloween Cake Pops, but I was not lucky enough the first time around. I’ll have to give it another try soon.
Cupcakes though I can fake. I picked a variety of items to help this novice decorate and I have to say I felt successful. So much so that I made a second batch with a yellow cake mix for a ladies night that hosted. Once again I let my son help me decorate and we had a blast working side by side in the kitchen. Cooking truly is something that brings families together. I think he did a great job adding candies and eyes to the cupcakes.
Not bad for a couple of novice bakers right? They cupcakes were a hit at the party as well as the stand. My only advice is that you place the stand on a serving platter or plate before you place cupcakes on it. Afterall it is only made of cardboard and paper. I do have to say that it is sturdy and I used it twice and could probably keep using it. That is if there isn’t any frosting on the paper. I do however have to say that getting the cupcakes with a taller decoration on the second and third shelves with the sides on is difficult. Next time I won’t put the sides on until I have it loaded!
