Directed by: Henry Jaglom
Starring: Tanna Frederick, Michael Imperioli, Frances Fisher, Corey Feldman, Mary Crosby
When I was asked to review the new film by Henry Jaglom , I jumped at the chance when I viewed the following movie trailer for The M Word coming to theaters April 30, 2014.
Take a Peek:
The M Word is set in a struggling Los Angeles TV station. During a time of economic loss top executives Michael Imperioli as Charlie and his second in command Robert Hallak fly in from New York and come down to the station to see where corners need to be cut. Charlie immediately falls for Moxie (Tanna Frederick) a children’s television show host that has ideas of her own about “the M Word”. She has been filming her mother and aunts details and experiences about menopause.
Review:
The M Word is a quirky real-life comedy/drama. Although there is no real plot per say, we follow along as if we have a window into Moxie’s world. We meet and fall in love with her family. Frances Fisher plays her menopausal mother and along with her movie sisters gives us a real up close and sometimes hilarious look at menopause. All this, woven in between a love triangle featuring Moxie, Charlie, and Benny ( Corey Feldman). and a possible massive job loss at the station Moxie loves. Tanna Frederick is brilliant as Moxie. Her energy and passion never waver throughout the film. The chemistry between her and Imerioli is immediate and real.
I enjoyed this film and would have loved to have viewed it with my girlfriends. It’s unpredictable, yet real. The beginning was a bit slow for me then I began to feel it and the energy never stopped. Not only is this film about menopause, but it’s about change. When dozens of jobs are put on the chopping block Moxie steps up and causes a small revolution that ends with a surprise. (I don’t want to give it up.) Imperioli’s character Charlie states, ” Everything has a shelf life! You have to know when your time is up!”
While most men might not run out to catch this film, they would enjoy it if you dragged them along. The characters grown on you and in the end you end up rooting for each and every one of them.

As I get older, I really love movies about relationships between female friends. Maybe it’s because I’m trapped in the house with 2 littles and don’t ever get to have a conversation with my friends? haha…I’m sure these days will seem short someday.

I did drag my husband to see it and he was very validated. He realized he was not alone dealing with aHe loved the plot which I believe there’s a plot. The plot is that women count. Older women and younger women. Women bond much better then most men because we go through so much pain and suffering. We definitely love our partners our family and friends but the bond of menopause and its sweat, tears and the final laughter. we get new joy from losing our menses or periods. To not get that there is plot of women pouring out their hearts to warn the young, validate the women suffering And cheering on the survivors of menopause

Lot of faces in this movie that I recognize. Looks like a good movie, one that you buy when it comes out on DVD so you can watch it randomly on weekends after you’ve seen it at the movies.
