My family and I are already fans of Betty Crocker’s Suddenly Pasta Salads, so we were excited to try their new line called Suddenly Grain Salad! New Suddenly Grain Salad are mixes of wholesome grains. Each flavor has a unique blend of brown rice, wild rice, and quinoa paired with herbs and spices. They are conveniently packaged in a boil – in – bag format. Personally, I’m always looking for convenient healthy options for my boys lunches. So, I was anxious to give these a tray and see how the boys would like them.
The Review:
The mixes are easy to make to just like the Suddenly Pasta Salads. You boil the contents in the bag and mix the dressing on the side. Easy breezy. The boil time although is much longer. If you already cook with whole grains then you know on average you need to cook the ingredients at least 17 minutes. So, you do need to give yourself some time. When I first saw how the Suddenly Grain Salad looked I had doubts as to whether or not my children would eat it. Personally, I loved the taste and texture, but I wasn’t quite sure if my children would be able to get over the texture. I was wrong. The first flavor I served them was the Southwest Grain. It contains brown rice, quinoa, black beans, corn, red peppers and a small spicy kick that I thought could win them over. They loved it! They each asked for seconds and my little vegetarian said he most definitely would want this in his lunch box. SCORE! They both would and with 4 grams of protein, 27 grams of whole grains and a good source of fiber so I’m thrilled.
We also tried the Tuscan Grains. The Tuscan Grains is a blend of brown rice, wheat berries, quinoa, almonds, and red peppers with a tomato parmesan herb dressing. My husband loves quinoa and while he enjoyed these salads he wished that there was more quinoa. The rest of us enjoyed the blend as it was served. I am adding Suddenly Grain Salad to my shopping list!
You can purchase Suddenly Grain Salad mixes at major grocery retailers in the rice and grains or pasta aisle and online. For more information visit: SuddenlySalad.com.
