I just can’t seem to get anything done lately. Maybe it’s the Winter blues, maybe I’m just in over my head. I don’t know. What I do know is that this has to change and soon! I’ve been a bit cranky this month and just need to move on.
This month I learned that:
10. when someone says, “Don’t you know who I am?” It can never be a good thing. (“Nope, I don’t know who you are and frankly I don’t care.”)
9. people still think I get things for “free”. ( If I get an item to review and I have to write a blog post, Tweet about it, Facebook post etc…that isn’t “free” it’s called working.)
8. sometimes there is just way too much useful information online. ( I’m serious. At this moment I have too many browser windows opened with articles I want to read when I’m done writing this piece.)
7. it’s true people are voyeurs. ( Why do you think Facebook is such a big hit? It’s like getting a little peek into someone’s life. )
6. If you call the cable company and phone company they have a ton of unadvertised deals. ( I’ve know this, but sometimes it’s been a bust getting a break from them. This time I got lucky and now I’m saving an extra $30 a month!)
5. you have to be careful who you do favors for. ( They either expect it all time, think your a sucker, or complain about how you did something. No thanks. I won’t be doing you any more favors.)
4. as parents we need to let our children do more for themselves. ( I have had kids not know how to pour themselves a drink or clean up after themselves when they’ve been over. Life skills- teach them young.)
3. just showing up isn’t enough. You really need to get in there and give it all you got. (Why bother just going through the motions.)
2. I jump to conclusions. ( Need to work on that paranoid side of myself.)
1. you don’t need to talk to someone everyday or every week to stay connected, ( Some connections are just timeless.)
*As I’m editing and adding images I’m keeping my fingers crossed that my son gets over the stomach bug and the rest of us don’t get it. It’s been a weekend of surrender and honestly, it did feel good just taking care of someone and not worrying about anything else. Have a good week!”
Uncle Wally says
I worked with an actress on tour who shall remain nameless for now who used that “Don’t you know who I am?” line almost daily when demanding extra services from a hotel or when trying to get men to buy her drinks at the bar after a show. She never realized how stupid she sounded and pretty soon turned the entire cast against her. I find that people secure in their talent and in who they are are the nicest. The people who aren’t are insecure, aggressive and off-putting. It doesn’t cost extra to be nice and nice things will come back to you. (There are people in the industry who refuse to even consider working with that actress again and she’s a subject of derision about her behaviour to this day among all who worked with her 15 years ago).

Love this idea to really review and think about what I’ve learned. Love numbers 1, 2 and 10.
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
I think it will always be this way for us bloggers. Some people just don’t understand.
Milena Barrett says
That’s true.
Loriel says
I love how you’re taking time to reflect on the month. It’s such an important thing to do that many don’t (including myself!).
Saidah says
I definitely agree with number one. Some friendships are just built that way
Christine Luken says
I need to follow your advice on #6 and get my cable bill lowered. It’s getting ridiculous!
Katy says
Ahh the free thing!!! That drives me crazy. People are always saying that to me ‘you’re so lucky to get free clothes’ I always respond with a smart response about how I work hard for this and none of it is really free! – Katy
Courtney says
“Don’t you know who I am?”
Could there be a more arrogant question? haha. Its like nails on a chalkboard!
maria @closetohome says
Don’t you hate when people assume everything is free. I brought some cupcakes to a friend and her first response was did you get these for your blog
Milena Barrett says
OMG! I have to laugh because that’s happened to me as well!
Vanessa says
I love that line, No, I don’t know you and I don’t care who you, lol. The only thing I love free is living a stress free life and they are days when it isn’t always stress free, but grateful I can handle it better at my age.
Debbie Denny says
I also have people who think I get stuff free. Was even told once… Well how hard it that to write about.
Mama to 5 BLessings says
Yes I agree with you, I get the same thing. People think because you do not pay for a product and review it that is is free but it’s our time writing about it and claiming it on the taxes – far from free!
Pam says
I hate when people talk about me getting free things. I do a lot of work for what I get! That’s definitely one of my pet peeves.
Jess Weaver says
All of these are so true! Number 10…Yeah who cares. I don’t need to know who you are…hehe!
lisa says
I love everything you learned in February. I couldn’t have come up with a better list myself!
Liz Mays says
I can relate to a lot of these lessons. I’m a serial article reader too!
Andrea Kruse says
#8, totally! Sometimes when I try looking something up, I get wrapped up in hours of reading and browsing. Way too much!
AJ @ NutriFitMama says
#3- definitely give it all you got. I agree 100%!
Victoria says
I so agree with 10 and 9. I hate the phrase from 10 and I don’t care who they are either lol. With nine, I work from home full time and blog part time. I am a review blogger so every thinks oh you get all of this free stuff. No, I work hard for this stuff. Setting up giveaways, promoting posts, etc. Definitely not free at all.
Christy H says
I am with you. There are so many things to learn and know and apply. I love this list!
Lorane says
#10 is always the worst. I’ve somehow never like that expression. I know there are people who work really hard to get where they are from horrible situations .. but! that doesn’t mean people have to recognize them all the time
Pamela:: Still Dating My Spouse says
You are absolutely right “you have to be careful who you do favors for.” It will come back and hunt you….
shaunie says
number six looks interesting. Will be trying this one.
Laura Funk says
HA! Free, that is a funny one. Also I agree the winter blues are a killer lately. Hope you get out of your funk soon
