I’ve been sitting on this post for a couple of weeks now. There is a fine line between being a judgmental person and finding things annoying. For me being judgmental is about having or displaying a critical point of view and when you find things annoying it’s about being irritated. I’ve been doing some reflecting on this quite a bit lately. I’m sure that I will still make mistakes in what I think each are at certain times. We all do. There might be perfect moments, but not a single one of us is perfect.
I find it annoying:
10. when people are talking loud on their phones while they are shopping, on the train, bus, or at a restaurant. ( I would like to be out in public and not have to listen to your laundry list, have you run into me because you aren’t paying attention, or talk in a negative way about someone else. Guess what? Everyone can hear you and the world does not revolve around you. Thanks.)
9. when kids (or anyone I might add) asks, “What brand is that?” ( My son just told his buddy that he was playing basketball. Instead of asking him what his game is like or what position he plays he asked what brand sneakers he owns. Sigh… I hate to break this to you all, but this isn’t just kids being kids, this is parents teaching them what to find important and them spreading the word. Think about that the next time you post a photo of the sneakers you just bought your kid online and telling everyone how much they cost. What is the point of that?)
8. when you tell someone you don’t have the money for something and they insist that you “need” something or “need” to do something regardless of the fact that you don’t have the money. ( I think I know what I’m willing or able to spend money on. Thanks again.)
7. when people share posts without fact checking. ( It’s just as easy to check the fact as it is to hit the share button and make yourself look stupid. Hey, I think we’ve all done it once, let’s learn from it.)
6. when I’m trying to have a conversation with someone and they can’t look up from their phone. ( Can you tell that I find phones annoying?)
5. when I’m in New York City and people stop short to take selfies or photos on their phones. ( It’s bad enough when people walk around texting, but the unexpected stopping is beyond annoying. Step aside folks!)
4. when people who don’t have children give me parenting advice or share parenting articles and add #Truth. ( I’m sorry, but no, you really don’t know what the truth is until you have a little person attached to you 24/7. And, no I don’t care that you work with kids. It’s still not the same and I don’t need your judgement.)
3. when you buy something and the hanger says it’s one size and then you get home and it’s another. ( You would think that I would have learned by now and would double-check.)
2. when someone plays the, “Oh you don’t know who you are dealing with..” card. ( All I have to say is it’s easy to be a big fish in a little pond then to be a small fish in a big ocean. I think that’s why some people never leave the town they grow up in.)
1. when I write a post like this one and I find myself terrified to give my honest opinion. ( I hate conflict and I always end with an email or message about, “Are you talking about me?” Honestly, there isn’t anything in this post aimed at one person, these are things that pop up over and over again. I’m sure I annoy the Hell out of you at some point, too.)

Sometimes its good just to let it all out. I agree with you on fact checking thing. so annoying!
maria @closetohome says
I am right with you on the phone ettiquite. I do my best to stop a conversation as I am checking out and I rarely look at my phone when speaking to someone unless the phone rings and I am waiting for a call.
Dawn says
I have to agree with all of these. Absolutely things that get on my nerves, specially #9!
Sheri @ A Busy Bees Life says
I agree with most of these, and some of these really do get on my nerves, but I am aware I probably do stuff that gets on other peoples’ nerves too. LOL.
Cynthia says
I am glad that you got brave enough to speak your mind. There are many people, myself included, who find these things irritating. One think I don’t like is rude people. I learned to say please and thank you and to be courteous. Oh yes, lack of customer service bugs me too. Wait – I need to stop now before I start a list of my own.
Emily says
We all have our own weird quirks! For me it is people talking too loud, when I am right next to them. Or someone chewing with their mouth open.
Cristine says
I appreciate your honest opinion. Too many people are so afraid of what others think. Stand your ground and don’t put up with others garbage
Liz Mays says
The stopping short makes me crazy too. It’s like people have no awareness of where they are in relation to other people.
Amanda says
Number 8 and number 4!!! YES!! Please don’t ask me to spend money I don’t have. And don’t tell me how to parent ether!
Ali Lang says
All fabulous pet peeves! I’m totally with you on the “you REALLY need” one! People keep telling me I “NEED” a new car. Oh really? It seems to be driving around just fine, and I love being debt-free, thank you very much!
Kim says
Yes, yes, yes for #10! Oh my goodness. That drives me nuts.
Tracy @ Ascending Butterfly says
I think most of us share these pet peeves! I’ve gotten caught on that hanger thing too, super annoying!
Uncle Wally says
Thanks for saying something about phone etiquette! My God, some people on the bus talk loudly from the moment they sit down until the stop they get off of and most of the time it’s so much idiot talk!
And don’t even get me started on the people who will re-post any ridiculous lie on their Facebook page without fact checking even if it’s obviously outlandish and highly improbable! Everyone does it but IMHO Trump supporters are the worst and most gullible and willing to believe anything as long as it’s printed in nice fonts and has an official sounding source that invokes patriotism (which more likely than not, was made up in some hate-mongering loner’s basement).
Sue says
I don’t even know what to say, I think its all been covered! LOL
Holly Spoonley says
Ha! I love this list and I can totally relate. I can’t not begin to count all the times I get home with a new shirt thinking I bought a large and the shirt is a small. Ugh the horror!
Julie Mason says
#7 drives me nuts. In fact I am working on a whole Pet Peeve post regarding this!
Emilee W says
Number 7!!!!! Oh my gosh, so true. Seriously it’s gotten out of control!
Mommy Little says
I can totally relate to these!
Sadly, I am that person that insists you “need” something though. I’m awful to shop with… haha oops
Jenni Laplow says
I love the honest opinion. I’m right there with you about having pet peeves about people and their cell phones…having a one-sided conversation with someone who it looking at their phone is the worst…just put it down, please!
Amanda says
I agree with all of these! And good for you for giving your honest opinion!! People need to listen to these things more often ๐
Breharne says
#4 !!!!! This absolutely infuriates me! Or alternatively they compare child rearing to owning a dog/cat. NOT THE SAME THING, NOT EVEN CLOSE!
jehava says
LOL Yes many of these things are super annoying! People and their phones is one of my biggest pet peeves!
Jasmine Watts says
I agree with most of these! I rarely look at my phone when speaking to someone.
Nesha says
Laughing at your list somethings you need to learn to overlook they may never change.
Dr.Amrita Basu says
Married to the phone?
That’s a good one.I find it irritating when people don’t look up from the phone to talk properly. And I hate selfies.
Marie Barber says
I most definitely agree!! Phones are annoying and i just find it plain rude wheb your having a conversation and people use theres, the article fact checking is also.at the top of my annoyance list but the top spot has ro go to number 4, i even see people comment things like just because i dont have kids doesnt mean i dont get an opinion on it and rip into people! Annoying!! Love this post ๐
Subhadrika Sen says
Some of the things in the list matches exactly with what annoys me sometimes. I especially get annoyed when I really like somethingand that is not available (read only that is not available ) in my size or the hanger says one size but after wearing it ,it feels like another size and then queuing up in the shop for a long time to get it exchanged.
Rose Sahetapy says
Your list says it all! These are the facts that happen around us, and they’re annoying. It’s not pleasant to talk to someone and all they do is stare at their phone and even pretend they listen to you.
Memory says
Lol, I think the sharing posts without fact checking is one of my most annoying one too. It’s ignorance at its worst.
Ana De- Jesus says
I find it annoying when people are blatantly rude or make nasty comments. I find it annoying when people are on their phones when I am trying to talk to them.
Tescha says
No 8 is what i really find annoying as well. Respect the fact when I tell you i cant afford to buy something…. I am telling the truth.
Her Own Beat says
LOL…I’m so glad that you shared your opinions about what annoyed you. I thought this was a funny post, whether you meant it to be or not. It was a breath of fresh air. Thank you!
lex says
10 and 6 though, true and does happen often.
Katie says
Agree with all ten – haha, it’s all so true!
Kerry says
You have some great points here, some too that bug me also! I hate when your talking to someone and they then go on their phone, I think it’s ignorant!
Shirley Wood says
Love this, especially #1 and #10 and #7! Can I add mine too? I hate when people are leaving an auditorium from an event and stop when they get out the door…Hello, we want out too! And I hate when you want off the elevator but people are literally standing at the door waiting to get on, didn’t they know we want off! I don’t like those Must Watch this season TV posts either, we don’t all have the same tastes….oh I need to stop!!
