Every day is an opportunity to learn something new, whether it be a skill, a fact, or just something new about yourself. I try to make little notes to myself so I’ll be able to craft a post, but sometimes I forget or I lose them. At other times I end up with tiny slips of paper all over the place, some are illegible and I can’t make heads or tails of them.
I’ve been learning that:
10. you can talk to 3 different people about the same exact event and get 3 completely different stories. ( Sometimes the truth gets lost in a person’s point of view, there is after all your story, my story, and truth.)
9. no matter how careful I am, the day after I wash my comforter is the day my long-haired cat decides to take a nice long nap and shed all over it. (I swear I only wash the comforter because it gets cat hair all over it in the first place!)
8. I’m so tired of people being offended by the slightest little thing. ( I think we just need to have a sense of humor about certain things)
7. there is a misconception that if I do things differently than you do things that I must think you are wrong. ( I’m using “I”, but I have seen this happen to a few people. I post my story you post yours. Mine isn’t better and neither is yours, the stories are our own. That’s it-end of story.)
6. some adults aren’t smart enough to realize that if you are at a kids sporting event and you decided to make fun of one of the kids on the other team you better hope you aren’t sitting next to their parents. ( First of all- shame on you for making fun a child that you don’t even know, secondly, my husband did the right thing by not getting up and clocking you, and the lastly, my husband also did a good thing by not telling me until we got home because my mouth would have gone off!)
5. every time it snows here in New York or its extremely cold friends that live in the south feel the need to post the temperature down there with some comment about, “Wouldn’t you rather be here?” ( My answer is NO. I live in New York. It’s Winter. It will be cold and it will snow. I love living here because I enjoy the change in seasons. I’ll enjoy my 80 temps when it’s Summer.)
4. I just realized that for the most part I only drink water, coffee, beer and wine. ( If I get crazy I might have some tea, but that’s rare. )
3. simply responding to a cashier or clerk with a “And you have a good day, too.” can make a big difference to someone. ( I’ve gotten a huge response from just asking people, “How is your day?” or telling them to have a good one too. I think we rush sometimes and treat these folks as if they are invisible. Yes, some people are duds, but being kind is free. Spread it around.)
2. I get lonely sometimes. ( As much as I like being alone sometimes I feel a bit lost. A lot of my friends have gone back to work, my son isn’t homeschooling anymore, etc. It can get lonely, especially in the Winter.)
1.my boys have shut me down on social media sharing. ( I have a new teen and tween in the house and all of my posts must now pass their approval. I’m fine with it, but it’s another sign that they are growing up. I respect them so much. )
LOL…We;come to the world of teen parenting. My son turned 14 and totally shut em down about post any pics of him without his permission. It is rare I get to share my handsome guy with others.
YES to #5! I could never live in Florida for example! The weather can get so hot and even in the winter it tends to get monotonous. I love the change of seasons as it keeps me alive and I await each new season with anticipation! I find the Spring and Fall fills me with renewed energy and a sense that new exciting things are possible. Even as I write this in the midst of the biggest snowfall of the season here in New Jersey I’m truly excited watching this blizzard and knowing how beautiful the freshly fallen snow will be. As soon as it stops I’ve got my camera ready. For now, I’m just enjoying my espresso, reading my paper (online because they can’t deliver due to the storm) and watching it come down. It’s just lovely.
It’s those little acts of kindness that really make a difference in someone’s day. Maybe not everyone, but you never know who needs to hear it.
Yep, there are new lessons to be learned every day, and that’s what keeps life interesting. My kids are now grown and I still can’t post anything about them without getting their permission first!
I noticed that too. I noticed photos on the beach and ranting and raving about the warm temperature when it’s snowing and freezing here. I agree with the doing things differently. Some feel you have to be just like them to be politically correct.
LOL on the weather thing. We live in the DC area and we got snow today. I’m glad we did because we haven’t had any all Winter so no I don’t want to live where it is warm right now I want to enjoy my snow!
I am right there with you on many of these! I love how honest you are. Numbers 2, 4, and 8 I relate to the most! Every day though I learn new things and understand a little more as well; especially that there is only a few people in this world that you can truly trust and rely on!
I’m always learning something new and I can totally relate to the notes all over the place. Recently I created a board that I placed over my desk and I’ve been pinning post-its on it of what I learn along the way. They I come back to it when I get a chance. You’ve learned some great lessons! I too am tired of people being offended by the slightest thing! I always say, get over it. Life’s too short!
I agree that just because opinions are different doesn’t mean one person has to be wrong. There are so many different truths. Love that you get approval from your kids posting! I’ve started to do that a little with my 6-year-old. She’s surprising me more and more every day.
#7!!! I am so with you there today. Just because we are different doesn’t mean I think you are wrong or stupid or whatever you made up in your head! Yikes!
Love this list, you have explained a lot of what I have been thinking lately too. I think it is great your kids are starting to have a voice and you respect what they want you to share.
