STEP now available on Digital and DVD!
It was my pleasure to review this documentary film. I love dance and documentary and both are here. What is step you might ask? “Stepping or step-dancing is a form of percussive dance in which the participant’s entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps.”
Synopsis:
Set against the backdrop of Baltimore’s inner city, the film chronicles the senior year of a girls’ high school step dance team. Empowered by their teachers, coaches, families, and each other, they strive to win a championship and go to college. Deeply insightful and inspiring, this powerful film embodies the true meaning of sisterhood through a story of courageous young women worth cheering for.

My Thoughts:
I truly felt as if I had been let in to a secret window of these young ladies lives. There was hard work, determination, and many obstacles to overcome. There was nothing easy about this journey at all. It was a reminder not only of how blessed I should feel, but of how much struggle takes place in the world around me. I admire these young ladies and the adults in this film. I want my kids to watch it. We should always be aware of what is happening in the world around us. When these young women took a stand for “Black Lives Matter” I almost cried. They have such strength and courage at a young age. There is nothing perfect about their journey. I am thankful on so many levels that this film was made and that once again, art in the form of dance can save lives. Art is valuable. Step is life. Buy it, rent it, and share!

Following the story of these girls would be great! I’m not totally familiar with step-dancing and it would be fun to learn about that too!

This seems like a great movie. When I was in my teens, I loved films like this. They help younger girls find connections with one another.
