October came and went before I even blinked! October is one of my favorite months because it has my favorite holiday-Halloween! This was a bit of a bitter-sweet year. My oldest at 13 couldn’t decided if he wanted to trick or treat. Okay, I get it. I brought by youngest 11 to his school’s Trunk or Treat and he then realized that his class were the oldest kids there. In the car he expressed his disbelief that his trick or treating days could be over sooner than he thought. I assured him that he can get candy from strangers for more years to come, but maybe this event was over for him. My boys not being little ones went as fast as October did, but I’m getting used to the fact that I have young men now. I just need to stop calling them my little guys because when people meet them they looked shocked considering how tall they are! LOL! I guess even when they are taller than me they will still be my little guys! Here you go…..
I learned that:
10. you need to make copies of everything. (Yes, everything! A paper trail is best, but I suppose you can take a photo or a scan too! Twice this past week things came up where I needed to produce copies. Got it universe!)
9. while asking someone for help is difficult, it’s even worse when they don’t listen to you and what you need. ( You gave me the wrong information and then acted like I bothered you. Sigh….)
8. my kids do pay attention to me. ( When I asked my son his choice of 2 locations for Spring Break he answered, “Well, that’s easy. We aren’t vacationers mom, we are travelers! I’m up for an adventure and the beach won’t do!” LOL!!!!!!)
7. I will not live in fear. ( What a world! Shootings, bombings etc… happen every day. While, I will not go out of my way to seek danger I also will not stop living my life because of it.)
6. the people who do the most work are usually the ones behind the scenes. ( This seems to way with almost everything. You can actually do good things and not post about them or need to be patted on the back all the time.)
5. when you let the crazy in you deserve the crazy. ( Ugh, You don’t need to be “friends” with every single person that sends a request your way. It might just come back and bite you in the ass. Yes, I had a piece of crazy this week and I invited it.)
4. while I love being a mom, I hate the mom label. ( I had a PR rep decline me from doing a review because I’m a mom and the movie was rated R. I hate to break this to you folks, but moms like rated R movies. I just don’t let my kids watch them. I also had an angry fan go off on me recently because “You are a mom, you shouldn’t think like that!” Ugh, last I checked I didn’t hand in my human card when I gave birth. )
3. I need to work harder and procrastination may have worked for me in the past, but it’s not working now. ( I can be my own worst enemy. I need to get moving!)
2. you can’t be everything to everybody. ( You can only be yourself and if people don’t like who you are then they don’t belong in your life. Don’t mourn them. You will find your people.)
1. I probably have posted most of these lessons before, and this is a perfect example of things happening to you over and over again until you get the lesson straight. ( I’m hoping I’m learning.)

October? If it hadn’t been for Halloween, I might have missed it completely. My brain is still working in September.

I agree, October did come and go pretty quickly, but it’s also one of my favorite months because it’s when my younger son was born. And yeah, just because we are moms doesn’t mean can’t still be hip and cool and like “bad” movies. Geez.

I guess I need to turn in my mom card then too. Maybe it sounds crazy but my theatrical interests extend past Frozen lol

I learned the other day my kids are actually listening. Sometimes when I don’t want them to. lol

October has been a good month of learning for me too. I totally agree with you about a paper trail. It’s so important to have that with so many things.

October happened?! LOL So many of these I can really identify with!!

It’s no fun when the mom label gets in the way of things you could definitely do! I definitely have to agree about procrastination.

#3 Is still work in progress for me. I think I’m detail lol because I can still get things done at the last minute but it’s not without a price that I usually pay afterwards.

#4 really resonates with me at the moment! I’m halfway pregnant now and for some, I have already become a “mommy”, I’m not “me” anymore. For starters, don’t really like to call myself that, and then, like you, I didn’t hand in my human card when I decided to have a baby! People looove to judge. So annoying!

I love your list! Yes, making copies is super important and leave the crazy alone! lol October was a whirlwind in my family and November is shaping up to be the same.

You can’t be everything to everyone is such an important lesson and so hard to learn. Us mamas want to do and be all!

It’s really heartbreaking when you need help and people won’t cater your needs. I have learned that it is better to be your own help rather than seeking someone else.

My kids kids always put the ‘mom’ label on me…lol. Mom, you can’t wear that, moms don’t do that, yada, yada, yada. I thought October went by fast, but November is going by faster. So much to do!
