Well, I don’t know about you, but I love celebrating every single holiday day or national day or whatever with my family. Any reason to throw a theme party I’m in! So, when I was offered Groundhug Day for review of course I said yes! Why not celebrate Groundhog’s day? Why not celebrate Valentine’s as a family? Here is the scoop!
Groundhug Day by Anne Marie Pace
Illustrated by Christopher Denise
This is such a fun book for kids about helping and being a friend. While planning a Valentine Day party the animals find themselves concerned about whether or not Groundhog will be able to attend. They all knew if he saw his shadow he would scurry back into his hole and miss the party! They try to devise a plan to make sure he wouldn’t see his shadow. They finally find out that poor Groundhog is afraid or his shadow! (Or so they think) The animals come together and each offer some fun techniques for Groundhog to conquer his fear. While they finally convince him that shadows aren’t actually something to be afraid of, they realize that poor Groundhog is cold. That’s why he needs to go back into his hole! Now, I wouldn’t want to ruin the rest of the story for you. I can tell you that these friends all work together to make things happen. They begin to realize that they are all different, but that is the strength of their friendship. They each have something to offer in their own way. I thought this was quite an original story.
The illustrations are just lovely. Each detail is given so much attention that you can see the animals emotions in their faces. I find this so sweet. This book spans a few holidays so it can be gifted for Groundhog’s Day, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day and even an Easter surprise. Your kids will love it!
