Today is the first day of school for my youngest son and my oldest begins on Friday. This has always been what I consider the start of a “new year” for us. I’m usually the first to welcome the end of Summer and Fall with open arms. The routine of the school year is just what I need after a long hot Summer. I can’t wait to hear the story of my son’s first day when he returns home, but for now you’ll have to enjoy my story of the things life taught me this past month of August.
Last month I learned that:
10. sometimes you need to take a step back from your life and just observe. ( Boy, did I have an eye-opening experience! I can’t say anymore about it here, but being a fly on a wall is life changing!)
9. there are times when you just need to tell your story. ( There are moments when I just want to talk and have someone listen without judgement or advice. Don’t you? I’m trying to be a better listener.)
8. I fell for it again. I thought someone had changed, but they didn’t and I was hurt. ( I think I got it this time. They did try to back me into a corner again, but I didn’t flinch. They will never change.)
7. if you keep blaming other people for your woes, you really need to stop and take a look at yourself. ( Only you control you. My life has nothing to do with yours. Focus on watering your own grass instead of finding a scapegoat.)
6. we all take advantage of the good things we have and sometimes it takes another person to point out the parts of our lives that are fabulous. ( I think we become accustomed to what we have that we forget to enjoy it. I’m grateful for the reminder! I needed that!)
5. I love lo mein noodles! (I think I could eat them every day. My cravings for them have been off the hook lately! I just can’t get enough! LOL- no I’m not pregnant, just like a good noodle!)
4. it’s hard to have a conversation with someone who constantly competes with everything you say.
(Please just let me tell my story then you can tell me yours!)
3. the pumpkin spice situation is serious business. (OMG! The battle between the “I hate pumpkin everything!” to “I love pumpkin spice!” is hysterical! I hope this doesn’t cause any friendships to break up! LOL!)
2. even though we didn’t get around to doing everything we planned this Summer it was time well-spent. I feel confident about moving into the next season and figuring it out. ( You just can’t do everything and that’s okay.)
1. as if I didn’t already feel like an outcast on a regular basis I can’t get into the Fortnite meme’s or references from parents. LOL! ( Yeah, my boys don’t play so I don’t have any clue what people are talking about. I asked them about it and they didn’t seem interested. I did however find it funny that while we were on vacation random boys would walk up to my kids and say, “Do you play Fortnite?”)
So, what’s your Summer’s end story?
Rebecca Bryant says
I admit it I’m #TeamPumpkinSpice and I love Lo Mein. Never thought I liked it still ate some at Disney one year and fell in love with it now I eat it all the time at Chineses restaurants. As for my summer story, I enjoy spending time with the kid. We spent a lot of time prepping and registering for college so he would be ready to take it on.
