About THE DARKEST MINDS:
From producers of Stranger Things comes an empowering tale of teens who mysteriously develop new abilities and are declared a threat by the government. Ruby (Amandla Stenberg), one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon, this newfound family realizes that collective power is needed to take back control of their fate and save future generations.
My Thoughts:
Loved, loved, loved it!! Based on Alexandra Bracken’s New York Times Best Seller The Darkest Minds, that I now I have to read! First I have to say that I hope they continue and make this book series into a series of movies because I was left with wanting more Ruby! When I first heard about this film I had no idea that there was a book series behind it. I wasn’t sure if there was room for another dystopian story, but I was wrong. I found the story line original and the characters unique. I’m also a sucker for a strong female lead. This film does not lack strong female characters. There are plenty and on both sides of good and evil.
One of my favorite actors Mandy Moore also appears in this film. I like seeing her play different characters throughout her career and I would love to see another one of these films made in this series.
Amandla Stenberg steals the show as Ruby. Her performance is solid and you can see how her character develops throughout the film. I can’t wait to see more from her.
The film is rated PG-13. A suspenseful, action packed film for you to watch with your teen and hopefully also inspire possibly reading the book series!
