Quick and Easy French Bread

Serves: 2 loaves
- 2 TBS active dry yeast
- 2 Cups warm water
- 2 TSP salt
- 1 TSP sugar
- 4½ - 5 Cups bread flour
- 1 TSP Cornmeal
- Dissolve yeast in a large bowl of warm water.
- Add salt, sugar, and 2 cups of flour. Beat until smooth.
- Continue to stir in more flour until the dough is soft.
- Place onto a floured surface and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.About 6-10 minutes.
- Place dough into a greased bowl, turning once to grease the entire ball.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until dough doubles in size. About 1 hour.
- Punch dough down and return to floured surface.
- Divide in half and shape into 12 inch loaves.
- Place on greased baking sheet, seam side down. Cover and let rise another 30 minutes until doubled.
- Sprinkle tops with cornmeal and with a sharp knife make 4 shallow cuts across the top of each loaf.
- Bake at 450 for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
