Quick and Easy French Bread

Serves: 2 loaves
2 loaves of bread in 2 hours.
  • 2 TBS active dry yeast
  • 2 Cups warm water
  • 2 TSP salt
  • 1 TSP sugar
  • 4½ - 5 Cups bread flour
  • 1 TSP Cornmeal
  1. Dissolve yeast in a large bowl of warm water.
  2. Add salt, sugar, and 2 cups of flour. Beat until smooth.
  3. Continue to stir in more flour until the dough is soft.
  4. Place onto a floured surface and knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.About 6-10 minutes.
  5. Place dough into a greased bowl, turning once to grease the entire ball.
  6. Cover and let rise in a warm place until dough doubles in size. About 1 hour.
  7. Punch dough down and return to floured surface.
  8. Divide in half and shape into 12 inch loaves.
  9. Place on greased baking sheet, seam side down. Cover and let rise another 30 minutes until doubled.
  10. Sprinkle tops with cornmeal and with a sharp knife make 4 shallow cuts across the top of each loaf.
  11. Bake at 450 for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
