Okay so my husband is a bit extreme, but he began riding his bike to the dump. He loads up our kids bike trailer with all out recyclables and off he goes! The funny part of the story is he found that bike at the dump and fixed it.
In honor of Earth day this week I thought I would motivate people to go green. We stopped our garbage service almost a year ago in order to save some cash. Not only does it cost us half as much to bring it ourselves, but I found us recycling more. Recycling is free at the dump and I was surprised to find so many more things to recycle and was able to cut down on our garbage production. We also started composting which also saved on our garbage production.
Another thing we began about a year ago was changing our light bulbs to Cf’s and unplugging electronics when not in use. Savings- almost $250 a year for us! I couldn’t believe it. It actually worked.
And if aren’t using canvas bags, you really need to start. They even sell ones that fold and just fit in your purse so you won’t forget!
New green tip:
I’m going to try setting up a rain barrel so that I can use that water to water my plants and garden.
Real Simple-Real Change!
What are you doing to go green? Leave me comments!
