It’s the most wonderful time of the year for thrift stores! This is when you can get some great stuff. People tend to unload before the holidays and then do a super sweep right after them. The first week of school is prime time to hit the shops. They have enough time to go through all of their donations and get them out to the floor. Another thing that happens is that if they a ton of a certain item, (books, toys etc) they usually offer you a deal if you buy in quantity. I bought a huge duffel bag (that they gave me) filled with books for $5 last year and my son got to pick a free toy.
Another great thing that occurs is a large amount of unopened gift items, think gift items for end of school year gifts, etc. Technically I don’t think it qualifies as re gifting since you are buying it. LOL! It really is a treasure hunt. Also larger items, such as furniture also seem to pop up this time of year. If you haven’t checked out your local thrift shop, give it a go, you’ll be surprised at what you might find.
I put this is my “green” section because this is true recycling. I have become a huge fan of used items, especially with the kids. I don’t worry about things getting scratched or ruined. It helps us live life a bit better I think. I think I should maybe start sharing with you all the great finds I have discovered and how I’ve made them work for us. You might find it inspiring.
