My Super Moon Baby
March 18,2011 ,the day before my due date. it was a beautiful day, temperatures up in the 70’s sunny and just not what a typical March day should be. That evening was also a mark in history, The Super Moon was to show its face at night. I remember hearing that the Full moon could have some effect on pregnant woman, and I thought, hey if this is the super moon, It must get something done! I was anxious, it was baby number 3, and for the first time I didn’t know my baby’s gender. I just wanted to meet this little person inside of me.
For some reason I kept my oldest home from school. Me and the kids went out walking, cleaning the yard and just had a wonderful time together that day. In the evening my sister-in-law picked the kids up and took them to the movies. It was just me at home, dancing to music, and baking up a storm. I made 2 loaves of banana bread and was starting at the pumpkin pancakes when I started to get contractions. I really tried to think past them because this has been happening on and off for a week. I did think in the back of my mind that these were different, I was breathing through them, swaying through them, BURNING MY PANCAKES at the same time.
My sister in law came back with the kids around 7:30. I told her that I thought this was the night, but not yet I would be fine. She was about to leave and within minutes, the contractions started coming every 5 mins, and strong. So she packed the kids back up into her car since their seats were still there and I called my husband. I told him to meet me at his parents house ASAP, that it was happening TONIGHT!
I drove myself to their house about 20 mins away, breathing through the contractions. I remember it hurting, but I was so excited that it wasn’t that bad. When my husband arrived he got right into the car and off we went to the hospital. He was being funny, driving the dark back roads, telling me he thinks he made a wrong turn. I laughed and still couldn’t believe our baby was on its way.
Once we arrived at the hospital (one I never gave birth at) I made it clear to the nurses that I did not want ANY interventions if possible. Not to offer me pain meds and just to “let me do this” I got checked by the doctor and was only 4cm. I thought it was going to be a LONG night and it was only 9pm. I was contracting ever 2-4 mins. After an hour of laying in the triage bed, breathing through each contraction, listening to the poor girl on the other side of the curtain scream, they assigned me my nurse and let me stand up.
My nurse, I will never forget her. She was such a perfect match for me. She birthed using hypnobirthing and was completely supportive of my natural birth. I asked her to get the jacuzzi ready and she was on it.
I always wanted to labor in a tub, and now it was happening. It was a small room, but there was a tropical, serene calmness to it. It was wonderful, relaxing. Never once did it elevate the pain, but it relaxed my body, allowed me to breath and focus. I remember repeating in my head through each contraction “open up so your baby can come down”. It was like a mantra.
My husband would wipe my head with cold towels, give me water and just joined me in my silence.
An hour later I felt pressure. I told the nurse I couldn’t walk and we had to get moving. She brought me a wheel chair and wheeled me to my room. I got myself into the bed and was 7cm. This was at 1:30am. the contractions were supper intense, I stayed calm, and by this time I was humming through the contractions. 20 mins later, my body was pushing full force. She told me to stop, I told her I had no control. She checked me and I was complete. In that 20 minutes I had dilated 3 cm.
The doctor came in and just sat on the end of my bed. There were no stirrups, he didn’t wear swat gear, it was so pleasant. Nothing like my other births. I pushed for 13 mins, and at 2:03, March 19,2011 with the super moon present my baby was born.
She was born right onto the bed, still encased in her sac. I looked at her and she looked like a creature from a fairytale, with the sac still around her. At this time, I didn’t know if I had a boy or a girl, but to me I had a perfect baby just laying there, looking around. I asked my husband “well, what is it!” and he stayed silent, still just looking at this baby, looking back at him. He checked for the gender and said, “we have another daughter”
I cried with joy, I knew my oldest daughter would be so happy and big brother would be so proud.. We named our fairytale creature Cecilia Juliette, our Super Moon Baby.
