It has been years since I’ve been to Virginia Beach and I can’t wait to go back! I don’t know why I didn’t think about it sooner, considering that Virginia Beach is only four hours southeast of D.C. by car. My family and I are in New York so this less than a days drive for us. I was there when I was single and now that I have a family I’m looking into what Virginia Beach has to offer us as a family. I was surprised at the variety of activities available. Not only would my children get a chance to play in the ocean, but also at parks and playground right on the beach. While looking at the information on things to do at the beach I was quite impressed with how accessible the boardwalk is for the handicapped. There are accessible ramps at every block. Virginia Beach also offers a handicapped accessible playground at Grommet Island Park, as well as several other parks and playgrounds.
So, how am I planning on loving the moment with my family? Besides having my little one see the ocean for the first time, I’d love for us to some parasailing as a family. I haven’t done it in years and I think my boys would love it! Another activity I would like to do is to go on a dolphin tour, my guys love dolphins, now that’s a moment that will live forever. The memories that we could make on the ocean while enjoying the beautiful Virgina coastline. I hope we really get to see the dolphins, but if not we can always go to the aquarium! The aquarium is something that has become quite the family tradition for us while on vacation. I don’t think we’ve been anywhere without heading to the closest aquarium. That’s an awesome rainy day activity and a way to make the rain not such a bad thing!
In these times of smartphones, iPads and well, everything else, we seem to lose the moments that are unfolding right in front of us. This year when you take a vacation or long weekend with your family take the challenge to unplug. Think about the memories you can make with your family if you are truly present. Take a look at the online vacation guide to Virginia Beach and see what sparks the excitement for you and your family.
