The New Victory Theater Presents the Carlo Colla & Sons Marionette Company’s SLEEPING BEAUTY.
U.S. Premiere November 1 – 10, 2013
Once again the New Victory Theater is providing families with quality entertainment. This time with strings attached! Carlo Colla & Sons Marionette Company is one of the most recognized puppet theaters in the world. Based in Milan ,the company has produced a collection of over 3,000 marionettes produced the past 300 years. Each marionette begins the same, as a block of wood waiting to be carved. Production takes about a week and several people are involved with one figure. Eugenio Monti Colla, Artistic Director and the last puppeteer to have performed at Milan’s Theatre Gerolamo, the company’s first permanent residence, says, “Since the beginning, we have taken pride in the work and individual time we give to each of our marionettes and the development of each of our shows. I learned the art of the marionette, both creation and puppeteering, from my mother, who learned from her father, who learned from his father, and I am happy to keep this rich Italian heritage alive.”
SLEEPING BEAUTY is supported, in part, by a special presenting grant from The Jim Henson Foundation.
Take a Look:
This classic presentation of the original Sleeping Beauty can be seen right here in New york at The New Victory Theater. My family and I saw the performance on opening night. The kids loved how life-like and large the marionette were onstage. Although my husband was not a fan we did agree on the fact that taking the children to see a variety of live entertainment is quite valuable. We learn a bit more each time what the child enjoy and often are surprised. This certainly kept their attention. The sets were amazing as well as the puppetry. I admit that I got a bit freaked out at times. They truly look and act like real performers. It was a good time. Plus, the New Victory is affordable and child friendly. Next weekend is a holiday weekend so take advantage of New York City and what it has to offer.
Performance Schedule: 4 performances
