Well, once again I’ve been absent from my blog. The flu has taken over my house. it started with my oldest Noah, then finally me. Then to top it all off I threw my back out coughing. Fun, fun, fun! Oh, I think not!
I did however learn a lesson in the midst of all this sickness. It’s called kindness. I think sometimes we save our kindness for strangers. Everytime we write a check out for a charity or put a dollar in some collection bin or buy food for the food drive, we are helping strangers. What about our friends and neighbors? I’m as guilty as anyone. I take pride in all the work I do for charities, in all the donations I make, but what about my neighbor? Sure, I’ve helped my neighbor, I’ve spent 18 months bringing meals to a family whose child had been afflicted with cancer, cooked meals for other local families amidst various medical scares, but what about the people I’m in close contact with? What have I done?
While my little one was sick I had a friend bring me over a wide variety of surprises, wine for me, coloring book, crayons, food trays and items I would be needing for my sons school and sooooo much more. I also had a friend drag her kids out to pick up other items I needed for my sons school feast. I had been touched by kindness.
As I lay down with my fever, I know where the kindness is, just a phone call away. I spent Thankgiving alone lying on my couch, but I was blessed. My family was away enjoying the day, as they should, and my mom was going to come save me when the day was done. And she did!
So, I’m starting a New Years Resolution today, help my neighbor, my REAL neighbor as much as I can. Food is huge! I spent way too much money buying take out for us when I was sick. Way toooooo much!
I’m giving you all this challenge: Be the kindness that you seek and in return you shall find it!
