Yes, that would be a picture of an actual lunch sold at a high school, hot cheese doodles with melted cheese. Instead of a school lunch that looks more like something 2 really high college students chose to eat during a binge. I thought my schools breadsticks with sauce was bad, I had no idea.
We CAN do something about this! I’m posting this as part of my Thin Thursdays because I can’t believe the number of kids I see everyday that have an issue with their weight. When I was in elementary school I can only remember MAYBE 2 kids that were heavier and as far as today’s standards they wouldn’t be even considered overweight.

The House is deciding between their (better) version, or the Senate version which takes funding from food stamps. Slow Food USA just sent out an urgent action, asking their supporters to send an email to their House Rep. I did and so can you.
It’s so easy go HERE and just enter your zip code! It’s really that easy. We have so many families experiencing financial hardships these days we CAN’T take funding from food stamps, we just can’t. It should be a priority to feed our kids well at school. You can help make that happen.
You might also like to know that at the moment Slow Food Memberships are on special – only $25, not the usual $60, for the next two weeks only! You can join here: http://bit.ly/JoinSF
Two versions of the Child Nutrition Act sit before The House at the moment, and they have only days to decide which one they’ll pass. Click here to send a quick email to your Rep asking them to pass the version which doesn’t take money from the food stamps program.
