Halloween Safety Tips:
The NFPA reports Halloween is one of the top five holidays for home fires caused by candles. To help families avoid becoming another frightening statistic this Halloween, Liberty Mutual reminds parents of these and other important fire-safety tips found at www.BeFireSmart.com:
· Use a flashlight or glow stick instead of a candle to illuminate Jack-O-Lanterns
· Keep decorations at least one-foot away from burning candles
· Keep exits clear of decorations, ensuring that nothing blocks escape routes
· Don’t overload outlets or extension cords and check lights or other electrical decorations for damage and discard as necessary
· Before going out trick-or-treating, ensure that all open flames are extinguished and don’t leave burning candles unattended
· Help your children identify two ways out of a Halloween party when you first arrive
· Never allow children to carry candles; they could ignite their costume or another child’s
· Instruct children to stay away from open flames
Have a happy and safe Halloween!
