Recently I was sent a series of books to review, Travels with Gannon & Wyatt, and I was thrilled. I was interested in reviewing these titles with my son because he loves geography and history. These books sounded right up his alley and I was right. Travels with Gannon & Wyatt is an adventure series about twin brothers that are adventurers. This fictional series by Patti Wheeler and Keith Hemstreet uses the first hand adventures of the author’s twin boys. The books are written in the tradition of Lewis and Clark, a true explorers journal.
Here is the scoop:
Gannon and Wyatt are real life brothers that have actually explored the far corners of the earth and chronicled their adventures. These book are fiction loosely based on their real life stories. Along with their parents they chronicled, photographed and videotaped their experiences. This allowed for a new type of fiction that is educational and allows for the reader to learn about geography, different cultures and the environment. This series is geared toward middle grade students.
My Take:
We’ve been reading my son the first book Botswana. He’s a big fan of non-fiction, geography and history. This book series has the perfect blend of all of these. Even though the book is fiction, the geography and facts are real. That was really appealing for my son. The educational aspect of the books are appealing to me. It allows him to learn, but yet have a fantasy experience. My son told me, ” I like learning about where they go and about their trip.'” My son is 9. I love these books. It’s a win-win! He learns and gets to have fun enjoying the twins adventures.
The latest adventure:Travels with Gannon and Wyatt: Egypt will be available in January 2014. I can’t wait for my son to start reading the next adventure! If you are stuck on a gift item for a boy or a girl who loves travel and adventure these books could be a winner for you. Check out the Travels of Gannon and Wyatt online and find out more about the books, the authors, and the world!
* I was given these books in order to facilitate a review. all thoughts are mine and my son’s.*
