Domestic violence, somehow it seems as if we have all been touched by it. I’ve lost count at the amount of women who I know that have lived or are currently living in a violent situation. It’s not always apparent in bumps and bruises, but the mental abuse that takes place has taken a great toll on families I know. Sometimes you can be there to help, to be a shoulder to lean on, but sometimes the abused person feels like they have nowhere to go. It’s a sad truth, just take a look at the statistics.
About Domestic Violence
- 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime.
- Men are the victims of nearly 3 million physical assaults in the U.S.
- On a typical day, more than 20,000 phone calls are placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide.
- More than 3 million children witness domestic violence in their homes each year.
What can you do?
You can visit a Verizon store or go online and purchase exclusive purple accessories, like a headset, phone or tablet case, and HopeLine® from Verizon will donate $1, up to $100,000, to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. You can also donate a phone! HopeLine has a goal of 1 million phone donations by the end of 2015. It’s easy! Simply visit your local Verizon store and drop off your wireless phones, chargers and accessories from ANY wireless carrier to help support victims and survivors of domestic violence.
